That's sad but at 17 years your cat is old... so not that weird. As said in previous things check with your vet but if your cat lived that long I'm sure you take good care of her and know what to do with that whole aspect.
Just try to be more visual or physic in interact. If your coming up to your cat from behind stomp your feet so she can feel the vibrations. good luck. ^^

If the vet can't see a foreign cause for it (something jammed into the ear like a weed seed, that's damaging the ear drum) then it may be normal hearing loss. A vet can't fix that.
Our 19 year old cat went completely deaf 5 years ago, with nothing that could be fixed. We've worked out a series of hand signals instead of talking to him, so he knows how to communicate with us. But I can tell he still misses hearing us, he's living in a silent world right now.
Don't let yours outside, they can't hear danger coming. Otherwise they're normal cats.

The best thing to do is to make sure her hearing loss isn't due to an injury, or infection. If you can safely rule that out, than there isn't much you can do for the cat.

Take her to the vet they may have a treatment for this.

We taught our dog hand signals when she lost her hearing. She will adapt--just be sure to pay extra attention to her.
