What are your opinions of underage drinking?

Personally, I am 16 and I am against it. It seems the majority of kids my age get drunk on a regular basis and make bad decisions and I was wondering what other peoples opinions are on this matter. Thanks :)

Update:

I'm actually from Australia and here the drinking age is 18.

Update 2:

Slay Specialist- I have no desire to drink OR get drunk ;)

Underage including age appropriate are just stupid and ridiculous and such a boring way to think one is having the time of one's life when all you end up doing is puking along with a hangover and doing it all over again like you really showed someone how unique it must be to be that foolish. I agree with your stance on underage drinking. It sucks big big time!!

I don't have anything against drinking responsibly, because it is okay to have fun sometimes, but I do have something against breaking the law, so I personally do not partake in underage drinking. I have before, but only a few times and I don't do it anymore. I'm 18 and I probably won't drink again until I'm 21, but I personally wish the drinking age was 18 because I feel like if you are able to get married at 18 and are legally an adult at 18 and can fight for your country in wars at 18, then you should be given the privilege of being allowed to drink because you should be able to handle the responsibilities by that age. I personally wouldn't be going out getting drunk all the time if the drinking age was 18 right now, but it would be nice to unwind with a glass of wine or a beer or something at the end of a long day at work. That's just who I am though and I know that if the drinking age really was 18 right now then most 18 year olds wouldn't be like me and they would go out and party and get drunk 24/7 so I do understand why the drinking age is 21, but I feel like us good 18 year olds who just would like to have a beer once in a while got the short end of the stick because of the majority of the 18 year old population.

In Australia, I would be against underage drinking as well. But in the states I think 21 is too old, so i'm not for underage drinking but I think the age should be changed to 18 here.

Most other countries have an 18 drinking age. The reason it's probably 21 here is so that less minors can get alcohol because most people who are 15-16 don't have friends who are 21. I think they should make it 18 and make it more of a crime to buy for a minor...so that anyone 18+ would be hesitant to do so.

I do think it's ridiculous that anyone 18 or older can serve on a jury, live on their own, own a gun, pay taxes, fight in wars, work in adult entertainment, vote for the president...etc but cannot have a beer.

I'm glad you're thinking above the crowd. I'm not saying its terrible to try out once but you do make a lot more stupid choices when you drink and you're still in highschool. It's already difficult being that age and it gets you into more trouble than its worth. Once you can live on your own it's a different story.

I think that if you can sign up for war (or get married or vote) at 18 you should be able to have a drink before you go. Just my opinion.

Food for thought- taken from wineintro.com:

"Mexico, to the south, has a drinking age of 18. There is little wine in Mexico, due to its hot and dry climate.

Canada, to the north, has a drinking age of 18 in Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec. The rest of Canada has a drinking age of 19. They create some delicious ice wines and rieslings, especially in the Niagara region of Ontario.

The United Kingdom has an interesting situation. Parents may purchase alcohol for their children to drink with a meal once they turn 5. A 16 year old can buy alcohol on their own to drink with a meal, and once the young adult is 18, they can buy alcohol for any purpose.

Ah, France. Country of wine! The drinking age here is 18, and wine is served with practically every meal. In Germany you can drink beer or wine at 16, but wait until 16 for hard liquor. Germany is a country known well for its beer but which also creates some delicious eiswein. Italy does not have a drinking age at all, but has the highest volume of wine produced by any country.

Further east, Australia is now well known for its wide variety of wines, and has a drinking age of 18. Nearby New Zealand is slightly more strict - you can drink at age 18 with an adult with you, but must be 21 to drink on your own.

In Japan, the legal drinking age is 20, but you are essentially allowed to drink once you turn 18. There are even vending machines that dole out small bottles of alcohol in various locations."

I think that if drinking was not so taboo people would not go crazy at 21 while (more than likely) they are away from home. I believe that if they learn about wines and alcohol in a more controled environment (while living home with parents) they will be LESS LIKELY to go crazy when away from said controled environment.

I don't drink underage but I think the government should change something either the drinking age or the age to go into the army because how come an 18 yr old kid can go into the army but cant have a bear after he just watched someone get shot? So I think I would change the age to 21 to be able to go into the army.

I am 19 years old and a college student. I personally don't agree with going out and getting wasted on a regular basis just because everybody is doing it. In reality not everybody is doing it, and you can still have a good time without alcohol. I have fires all the time with my friends that don't involve alcohol and we have a great time. It's stupid to just go out and get wasted and most young people that do it end up making some really bad decisions and put themselves in potentially dangerous situations.

I'm not really against underage drinking if they do it in the appropriate place such as their own house or a close family members that can keep an eye out. I am against drinking and driving. The truth is, minors will always find a way to get a hold of alcohol no matter what consequences are placed upon them. They want to do as they please and will drink whatever they want...well this is my opinion. I am guilty as charged myself..

well im under 16 and if i had to opportunity to get alcohol i would :P but only with friends coz 'once in a while' it could be fuun. But then again im against it coz it can cause violent fights, car crashes.. drunk driving and all the kind of thing. some people just take it too far.. but some teenager or underage people are quite responsible

Im 22, been drinking since im 16. I never have had an issue with it, IF i was a dad i wouldn't mind my kid drinking around the house supervised at a young age, but teenagers do stupid things and being 16, just getting your license, Drinking with no supervision...BAD things happen

The drinking age should be 18. If you can go to war you can drink. If you are mature enough to KILL A PERSON then you should be able to drink.

But very young people shouldn't been drinking. I've been drinking since I was 15 and I've never not been able to handle it. It just depends on the person.
