The Great Depression lasted from 1929 to around 1941, republicans expect the economy to be fixed in 8 months.?

What makes people think President can fix the worse economic fiasco since the Great Depression in 8 months?

Update:

But what republicans don't realize is that before Bush left office he signed the drug bill for senior citizens which would have cost as much as the healthcare plan President Obama is proposing.

Well this is where the problem arises. Republicans are upset that the economy is still hurting when Obama pasted a $787 billion stimulus plan that was supposed to rescue it. First, the stimulus plan was supposed to speed up the recovery but has not, second, it was supposed to save job, but we are still losing tons of jobs everyday. The unemployment rate may even reach 10%. Plus a lot of the jobs the stimulus does create are only temporary and may just be delaying the inevitable. So basically what I am saying is that Republicans are upset because they feel the Obama administration has been untruthful to the American people when initializing the stimulus. Know one expected the economy to be fixed over night but that is what Obama and Democrats in Washington wanted you to believe when they passed it.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.

Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

    Depression Free Method?

What we want is for Obama to NOT prolong the economic situation with his counterproductive spending, just as Roosevelt did with his government programs!

We are still laboring under the strain imposed on the economy by Roosevelt's 'socialistic programs'!

Obama's are only massively more costly!

In 7 months, this president has managed to spend more tax money and accomplish less than any president in history!

    1. This is not the Great Depression

2nd- War fixed the great depression

3rd- Economist have argued that FDR spending lead to the Great depression last 10 years longer than it should have. Which means the economic could have been fixed in 1931 insted of 1941.

    4. This is more likely related to the 1980's recession or the 1970s recession when the Opec got mad and stop selling America oil.

Ya forgot to mention that the depression lasted as long as it did BECAUSE of FDR's attempts to "stimulate" the economy.

1919 saw a recession, and the private sector rallied and led to the "Roaring Twenties". Hoover's policies led to another recession, and the policies of FDR caused an unnecessary and protracted depression.

Obama is taking the same path, acting stupidly.

Because all it takes to prevent a depression and end a recession is just one period of positive GDP growth, by like say bribing people with a $4500 credit to buy a new car. Of course, sustained economic growth would be better, but if Obama does not want Bush's recession to become the Obama depression, he needs to get that one period of positive GDP growth fast.

This is not a depression, this is a recession, and those generally are over in 6 months or less.

Of course that is when Republicans have control. Democrats think you can tax your way out of a recession...

The Great Depression lasted as long as it did because the people kept reelecting FDR and his policy was actually prolonging it. We are now setting the stage to repeat his errors.

Link below explains it well, followed by a link to the National Debt Clock. The large national debt was not due to Conservative economic policy but to massive social spending that continues today.

I expect our President to support programs that will relieve the recession, not push BS policies that will further tax Americans and send us sailing into another depression.

What brought us out of the Depression was WW2 and the jobs that were created but thanks to Bush, who already started a useless war, we don't have that option. The Republicans are desperate if they have to keep bringing up Jimmy Carter. He was one of the worst Presidents we ever had but he only got elected because Nixon (R) resigned in disgrace and Gerald Ford (R) was so inept.
