Why does my Cat dislike my precious grandaughter?

~ I have a domestic short hair house cat that is about 8 years old. Since day one,,,my cat does not like my granddaughter,,,;he hisses,,,,and completely avoids my gran daughter. But a complete stranger can come up to my cat and he will purr and be happy. This has been going on since my gran daughter was an infant,,,and now she is 7,,,,she is kind to my cat,,,,but still my cat will meow and hisssss like crazy when she is around,,,,,,any input on why???? She has Never mis treated or harmed my cat,,,she has always been nothing but nice to my cat,,,,,,

I just feel bad because she wants to be nice and pet the cat,,,,,but the cat just is so nasty to her with really no reason,,,,

thank you for your input

What I would recommend is to have your gran daughter feed it some treats like chicken and also to give it some catnip at times.

Cats just do that. They pick someone to like or not like and there does not have to be a reason. The only reason i can think of is that they live in a hierarchy and with you being number 1, your cat may feel that your grand daughter is competition for the next spot

He's jealous! When you got the cat he was your precious little baby and he liked it that way. Then your granddaughter came along and he probably notes that when she's around you lavish her with attention instead of him. You obviously adore your granddaughter and your cat is simply annoyed about that. My Dad's cat absolutely hates my neice and baby nephew and can't be left alone with them because he goes for them (even though he is the most placid thing all other times). You may never fully be able to cure this until your granddaughter is grown up. However if you want to try a few things then here are some ideas:

    - Try to give your cat the same level of fuss and attention when your granddaughter is there as when she's not

    - Let your granddaughter offer your cat some of his favourite treats. Let her hold the treat and allow him to approach her rather than vice-versa - every time she approaches him it'll simply make it worse purely because cats are such awkward creatures and like to be in control!

    - Try to discourage your granddaughter from following him or trying to touch him - you're probably aware that cats pay more attention to people who ignore them and they ignore people who are desperate to stroke them. This is no different with children.

    - If he does approach or go near your granddaughter reward him with affection and a treat. Continue doing this for a while so he associates your granddaughter with affection and treats. Eventually he'll do so without treats because he'll just associate her with positive feelings.

    Good luck

you may desire to understand that no count the dimensions of the baby from toddler to toddler and a splash older except the baby is quiet cats are actually not happy with babies and in basic terms isn't until eventually the baby gets a splash older. frequently you do no longer could desire to difficulty regarding the cat being aggressive except the baby call callings it or something alongside those strains yet for now what you may desire to do is get a towel and dry off your cat interior the domicile faraway from the toddler. Wrap the cat interior the towel and slowly introduce the cat to the toddler via letting it sniff her arms or good of the top. bear in mind save the cats legs wrapped interior the towel besides. verify that this advent basically lasts for an extremely short volume of time and do it as in many circumstances as you sense comfortable. The cat will ultimately get used to the toddler yet until eventually the toddler is grown he won't be popular. stable success with the hot assembly, Cynthia L. Haltom

It's her smell, or the way she moves (jerky like a predator) or the pitch of her voice (hurts cats hearing) or just 'because'. Cats are like any other creature, some people just rub them completely the wrong way. Don't blame the cat. He obviously has a solid personal reason to feel this way about her. In his mind it's legitimate.

Cuz the cat doesn't see her as precious! Maybe she did hurt him and you don't know it. Maybe he picks up on something that the humans aren't. Smell, Movement, Psychopathic tendencies. Just kidding. Anyways, just say the cat is off limits to her. Also, were you the first owner? Maybe a child hurt the cat and he doesn't like children.

Well its either something she is wearing (smells) or she has been mean to him at some point in time and he remembers it.
