Why are GOP Senators against the "Cash for Clunkers" program?

They are against anything Obama is for, because they want him to fail

Maybe they think it is another example of wasteful government spending. Did you hear the Secretary of Transportation the other day? He said that if he participated in the program he would buy a 4 door Expedition. Not very "green" of him was it?

I will admit though that cash for clunkers has done more to spur consumer spending than the bailout of the banks has...or the bailout of GM. And actually, it is a program that should appeal to Republicans...it lowers taxes and puts more money in consumers pockets, which spurs the economy. However, it is wrapped up in an environmental mantle that just does not fit.

Its not that they hate "Cash for Clunkers" its that a jobless American citizen can't do anything with a new car and new car payment from trading in there old one. Also only a certain type of car qualifies as a clunker you have to be on a set list so it doesn't help all of America.

two reason first of all we have already givin the GM and chrysler HUGE amounts of tax dollars so why havent they done something to offer people deals on cars??? secondly the GOP wants actual stimulus money spent on JOB CREATION not another program to put AMericans deeper into debt. FYI it is the democrat party that is trying to push the destruction of America ,there is NOT one economist who feels that the Obama stimulus plan will put Americans back to work and grow our economy.

They hate " Cash for Clunkers " because it is a successful program...and any success by a dem is a no no for a teabagger...

This program isn't for just anyone...you must have good or fair credit to be approved for this...

They are trying to compare this to people defaulting on their mortgages type of deal.....

The car dealers aren't going to give a care to someone who has defaulted on their credit....

This program is great for our economy..forget what these teabaggers have to say..their opinion or views do not matter.....they are of the minority...

Because it does nothing to help the economy.

All it is doing is taking two billion dollars (money we don't have) and giving it to the UAW.

Has it even occurred to you to ask: "Where is this money coming from?"
