My daughter is starting school.?

I have a six year old who is going to start kindergarten in a few weeks. Ever since she was a baby, she has always stayed up late. I suppose that is my fault because I am a night owl myself. Her school starts at 7:20 and I will be having to get her up at 6:30. I am having trouble getting her to go to bed early so I can get her up earlier. This transition is going to be difficult for both of us if I go about it the wrong way. Im working on cutting out sugars and carbs in the evening and it seems to have worked last night. What is the best way to go about the switch from being a night owl to an early bird for a kindergartner

(and myself)

Thanks for your advice.

Update:

You guys are giving me some great answers, I feel silly I couldnt come up with them on my own! Thanks

let her go to bed when she wants to but wake her up early, now during the summer, and make her stay up. She'll be tired and want to go to bed earlier...then you can just keep waking her up at the early time, 6 30 you said until her school starts

I personally would just start waking her up early in the morning. You don't have to start waking her up at 6:30 but try to get her up like 30 minutes earlier than she is now and slowly start increasing the time until yall hit the 6:30 mark. She may be tired a little more during the transition but let her have a short nap no later than 3 pm and cut out all the sugars in the evenings like you are now and she'll start going to bed earlier. Also, you can try giving her milk to drink at night as milk has proteins that make you sleepy.

Start waking her up 15 min earlier every day until you get to 6:30AM, do not let her take a nap too late during the day, and eventually she will be too tired to stay up late. Also try to avoid TV, sugars or anything that might keep her up.

    Good luck

Try going to bed a little earlier at a time (10-15 min at a time.) All at once will be a shock and hard to adjust. By doing this, you and your daughter will have that much more sleep and be more alert the next day. Good luck

    do it in small steps.

get her to bed 15 minutes earlier for the first few nights and up 15 minutes earlier the first few mornings. until you get to the time you want to have her go to bed and get up.

example first night bed at 9:45 up at 7:45

3rd night bed at 9:30 up at 7:30

6th night bed at 9:15 up at 7:15

    etc....
