One last question and then I'm gone?

Hey guys, after many questions, I was able to return my crappy $1000 laptop that kept on crashing (don't get the toshiba satellite, customer service is horrible as well as the hardware) and I was thinking about getting this computer from dell ^_^:

It's the third one ($699)

I just need to know if I can play Combat Arms on low quality without lagging and games like Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3 on medium quality without lagging. I really don't care about graphics since sooner or later game developers will try to capture virtual reality.

Thanks a bunch!

You'll be able to play those games today without any issues. Still, you might want to consider an upgrade to a video card with 1GB of memory so that you aren't upgrading as soon as new releases or patches for your games are released.

Depends on your monitor. With 22" monitor runnning at 1680x1050, you might be able to barely get playable frame rates on Fallout 3 (30fps at low with everything off). Games like L4D are less taxing, but with require higher frame rates (I need a steady 50 when playing) or else you strain your eyes. The HD4350 is a really old card, but you might be able to play at medium settings at 1440x900. Expect a slideshow during a mob attack.

Benchmarks for that card on different games here: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics...

Note that 30 fps should be the minimum playable framerate.

For lower resolutions, a 9600GT or HD 4670 should suffice. That's for playing those games you said on mid to high settings. These are low end cards for under $100 but many times faster than the 4350. But, if you're fine with a little bit of lag and don't want to bother with upgrading, then go with the HD4350.

BTW, more ram on the 4350 will not give better performance. It's got a 64-bit memory interface that should barely be able to make use of 256MB of ram anyway. For the lowend cards above, look for no more than 512MB.

You should upgrade the graphics card to the 9800GT. For $90, which is the current price for it, it's a better card than the HD 4670, and both are considerably better than the HD 4350. The 4350, if you got the system equipped with it, would ultimately be the cause of any bottleneck effect, meaning low frame rates and lag.

The maximum resolution for the 18.5" monitor is 1366 x 768, so even if the 9800GT only has 512MB of memory, you should be able to play almost any game on medium to high settings without lag and at decent frame rates.
