What songs were you forced to listen to listen to in school?

For me, it was all the 'School House Rock' and 'We Didn't Start The Fire' by Billy Joel.

I like WDSTF, but school house rock got to be a much.

How about y'all?

Update:

@Aly

Oh, I had to listen to the animanics songs too. I can sing them, but I'd probably kill your ears- my singing is *that* bad.

I remember alot of patriotic songs like "Grand Old Flag" and "America the Beautiful". And "Free to Be...You and Me" was still pretty big when I was a youngster. I didn't go to catholic school so I had to attend catechism class on the weekend. There was a singing nun (no kidding) who played guitar and was really into "His Banner Over Me is Love", "Kumbaya" and "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore". The other nuns were really into letting us know we were heathens for not attending catholic school.

I used to be in choir in my freshman year in high school and my teacher was freaking crazy. He showed us every song he wanted us to sing before hand on the audio player and he kept it on repeat until he was sure it was stuck in our puny little heads and he would play it LOUD too so everyone in the classrooms next door could hear it.

He made us sing Bon Jovi, Toto, Eurythmics, other various bands from the '80s, songs from various plays such as Rent, and a bunch of Disney stuff (typical). The one that got on my nerve the most was Bon Jovi's "It's My Life". The worst part was learning the choreography that HE made up for the song. It was hilarious, it killed me. In a strange way, I miss that choir class. Being in choir, you're kinda forced to sing everything. I don't know if I even answered this question correctly.

There was this other time when my English teacher in my freshman year played "Blackbird" by the Beatles and I was on the verge of killing myself in my desk while listening to it. It's one of those overplayed Beatles songs I just cannot stand hearing.

This question is kinda funny for me because I am and always have been home schooled with my siblings. So since my school is my home, and my teacher is my dad, and my classmates are my siblings, then I had to listen to all of the following (and still do) in school:

Lots and lots of Britney Spears.

    Unbearable amounts of Lady Gaga.

One big over dose of the Black Eyed Peas.

50 cent at every spare moment.

The sounds Metallica and Led Zeppelin filling the quiet night.

The never-ending sound of Johnny Cash.

    Taylor Swift all around.

The sound of the Beatles bouncing off every wall.

Quite the variety of music, huh?

    Puff the Magic Dragon.

    Oh. My. God.

I'll never forget. My teacher in year five made us listen to that song every single day, and learn all the words.

Then, whenever any of us tried to tell her that the whole song is about smoking weed, we got detention.

It was always worth it to see the look on her face, though =]

We were never forced to listen to School House Rock. But I wouldn't have minded. I loooove it.

It depends on what grade you're talking about for me. In my elementary school, ever grade had a different program that they had to put on. First grade had a circus, second acted out Disney's Alice in Wonderland, third did Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker (but not in ballet style) around Christmas, fourth did a program about the history of our state (Utah) and fifth did one about the U.S. I moved in in third grade, and can still sing most of the songs from the last two because if you weren't in one of the programs, you had to watch it. I could probably do most of the stupid dances too.

My eighth grade English teacher made us listen to Michael Buble and Enrique Iglesias. We made fun of Enrique's "My Hero" song every few weeks.

That same year, my history teacher discovered School House Rock. We listened to every single song, from every subject. Every now and then I still get "Lolly, lolly, lolly, get your adverbs here," stuck in my head. She also loved to play the Chronicles of Narnia soundtrack for us. That got old fast.

My Geography teacher last year gave us an interesting selection of music. We had a lot of fun with it, really. Here are a couple songs we learned in his class (the first one I actually have memorized now, and can sing it on demand):

We had this one substitute who turned on the radio to a station that played '50s music. I liked it, though most of the class hated it. People sure are picky when it comes to music (:

  • Christian music (I'm a Catholic), Christmas carols, that type of music, but I never felt forced to listen to it. I was in choir at a young age so I always enjoyed the music. (Of course, being in choir had its perks because you got out of school early at lunchtime for choir practice! You kind of felt like the big cheese cause the rest of your classmates had to stay in class. ha ha ha)

  • It is a long time since I was at school, and they did not force us to listen to songs we did not like, more bad attitudes, and terrible fashion sense, mine included, Lol.

Christmas songs. Back in elementry school we had to sing them in a little choir every year. I can still sign "Silent night" while I sing it.
