Suggestions on quitting smoking?

I've heard of so many different ways to help a person quit smoking, so i'm hoping to hear from a few people who have been through it.

Anyone who has been lucky enough & had the willpower to quit could you please let me know how you went about it? Any "tips" greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

Hey Mez, If you're trying to help someone quit that might get frustrating. A smoker has to want to quit or nothing in the world will work. Like the guy above, if you want to you can do it cold turkey. I know a guy whos been trying to quit for his wife for 25 years now. Tried patches, gum, hypnosis you name it. Fact is she wants him to quit but he doesnt want to, bottom line.

If its you whos trying to quit you can do it. You are stronger than you think you are. You have the will power to do it my friend, just go for it. Good luck.

What you describe is an addiction to nicotine. I agree it starts in your head; there is desire to stop smoking, and that is the important part. There are many different ways to quit, and often there are relapses, and new beginnings as you describe. The best way I know is to decrease gradually by allowing yourself less and less cigarettes per day in that way you are weening yourself of the nicotine. Once you are down to a less then 5 a day, it should be easy to go "cold turkey" by giving up let us say 3 cigarettes. When you have accomplished that do not go into any areas where there is smoking, or be with or near other smokers, until you are over the temptation to smoke. In time you will not be able to stand the smell of smoke it actually makes you sick. Then you will know you have made it. And you will be welcome to the non smoker's club. What is helpful is to find something to do with your hands, such as knitting or writing or any hobby to keep the hands occupied, also brushing your teeth often, instead of smoking, taking deep breaths, and seeing yourself as you wish to be a smoke free person . Best wishes for success

Just go cold turkey...i did, and i beat it.Stay away from other smokers when you quit, and just decide you want to live a full life without finishing up with diseased lungs.I gave them away 12 years ago, and now i can't stand the smell of cigarettes.
