multiple cat owners; how do you keep your house clean?

I have 4 (used to be 5) and have a hard time keeping up-there is fur everywhere! I am constantly doing laundry just to get fur off--I brush the ones who let me,all the time. I've been vacuuming pretty much every day. I use those pledge fabric sweepers all the time...and there is fur everywhere! I find it in the fridge! It covers my clothes!

I think if I got a lung x-ray they'd find a huge hairball in there....

how do you keep up with it? or do you just embrace it?

(and ps-I would never get rid of my cats...so that is not an option)

I have 8 cats and a dog- all inside. I bought a Furminator grooming tool which is unbelievable at getting excess hair off them to control shedding. They are a bit expensive, but I was amazed at the improvement after using it a couple of times.

A cheaper alternative I've heard good things about

You need a really good vacuum. I had an older vac that just didn't do anything to pick up the hair. I finally bit the bullet and bought a new vac. Again, I was amazed at the hair it picked up. Here's the one I got

Lastly, you do have to get used to a bit of fur here and there. That's just part of owning a pet. Get better products though, and I guarantee you'll see improvement. The cost is worth it.

I've always had long-haired cats so my problem has always been bad. I only have two right now so it's not too bad but the fur is everywhere like you said. My house at least, the entire thing is tiled.... every floor in my house, so that makes things a lot easier. I still have to do all the upholstered furniture at least once a day. I try to vacuum it twice a day usually but as long as you keep on top of it, it doesn't get all that bad. LOL, I have to wash my pillowcases every couple days because one cat insists on burying in the bed and sleeping on the pillows so they get absolutely covered in her fur!!

Oh, and lint rollers !!! I have one in my desk, one in my car, quite a few all around the house... anywhere we need them and we always need to use them before we leave the house!

i have the same problem with my cats! i only have 2 and i love them so much but the amount of fur they shed in what seems like a day is enough to make another cat! for the most part, i've learned to deal with the fur (you can keep vacuuming and cleaning but there is no way to keep up) and i keep a lint roller handy so before i go out i can get most of the fur off me. it helps to keep vacuuming just so the fur doesn't accumulate too much and i have a cat brush and almost everyday i brush my cat (they love it!)

I have 3 cats, and I have to vacuum alot! Whenever I leave the clean clothes out they make kitty beds out of them! I finally bought one of those rainbow vacuums that sucks up Everything! Cost me a million dollars tho (seriously, $1700) but it works great! Gets up everything. But the cleaning never ends. I decided in 10 years or so when these cats die I'm going to get Sphinx cats, they are almost hairless, which will be better in the Phoenix heat!

Oddly enough, we have four cats and our house is not covered in hair. Ours are all shorthairs, but I don't think that makes much difference. We have no carpet in our house, so I think the hair is easier to clean up that way (it kinda gathers into "dust bunnies" and I can vacuum it up). I use a lint roller if I get too much hair on my clothes, but it really doesn't seem to be that bad.

I wish I knew the secret, I'd share it with you! : )

    I have 5 cats and 1 dog...

I help keep the house clean by hoovering downstairs rooms twice a day. , including sofa.

And hoovering upstairs rooms once a day.

All my clean clothes go straight into draws or cupboard.

    And mopping floors everyday.

If we didn't do this then everytime my cats or dogs play and race around, my house would be a total mess with hair...

Helping with the house work doesn't bother me as i adore my cats and dog and have to deal with it...

Some people on here have 15cats and more... LOL

I wouldn't mind that if my mum let me have that many, she loves animals just won't let me have anymore. Yet! LOL...

    Hope this helps u :)

    Good luck x

honestly if you want to keep them your just going to have to suck it up(not trying to sound rude). there are certain fabrics that hair wont stick to as easily just try your best to get those and maybe some lint rollers for the times in between vacuuming that the hair is bothering you on the couch or on your clothes. its never going to stay gone more than a couple hours with that many cats.
