Clunking noise everytime i turn steering wheel while backing out of parking, garage etc?

Everytime i back out of my garage or a parking space and turn the steering wheel all the way there is a clunking/clicking noise comming from the front. Its a 06 Civic sedan. Dealership is charging me $120 just to take a look at it so im searching for local body shops to take a look at it for free. Please help. Many Thanks :)

    Holy cow - $120 for a peek.

Although it would be unusual in so new a car, the obvious thing (and easy to check) is a failing CV joint. On each front axle, left and right, there is a pair of magical parts called Constant Velocity joints, each covered by an accordian-pleated rubber boot. One is near the wheel and one is near the transmission, a foot or two away. The outer boots usually tear first, spraying everything in sight with black grease (yum!) Failure is obvious from the grease and the rip, which will be in the valley of a pleat and extending most or all the way around the boot.

Without the grease the joints wear and make a distinctive clicking sound when the wheel is turned one way or the other. When the boots tear it is customary (most cost effective) to replace the drive axle - about $100 parts and $100 labor if an after market part is used, or $200 parts for genuine Honda. The Honda ones often last at least twice as long as the aftermarket ones, which is why I am surprised if that is your problem... but it sure sounds like it.

I don't know what year you got as far as a car goes but when you back out and turn the wheel on this car its your drive axles that come from the transmission to your front wheels. You need to have one replaced. But have both replaced as you would or will find out if you don't.You will have one wheel pulling harder than the other because of a new drive axle on one side. The axles should only cost about 70.00 dollars give or take a few in price depending on where you get them and to have them put in with labor being a little more to do the job on the car.And while your cars axles are getting looked at it may not be a bad idea to have your front brakes looked at for inspection.hgm20002000@yahoo.com

I had a clunking problem whenever I turned my steering wheel and it ended up just being a broken link in the sway bar. Don't know if that helps you but it only cost me 40.00 to fix

if you are looking at the gaiter that sits inside the spring then this is nothing to do with the cv joints. Sounds like your coil spring has broken. Check if the gap from the top of the tyre to the wheel arch is different that normally indicates spring trouble, very common on mondeos.

I am POSITIVE that it is your cv joints/shafts. dont go to the shop thats BS $120, the shafts themselves will cost you around 200$

Could be a ball joint. Or maybe your cv boot is torn and the cv joint has gone bad
