My friend is a disabled viet nam vet, he gets 2200 a month for his disabilites. He had to fight long and hard, about 7 years to get them and had to hire a lawyer.

If he were to die, those benefits would be cut down to about 700 a month for his wife.

If he was not collecting prior to his death, it will be hard for her to open a claim against that disability. If he was collecting something, she should be entitled to some of it regardless if she is disabled or not.

However, if her social security income is more than what he was receiving prior to his death, if any, then she will more than likely not be able to collect as her income was greater.

If he was carrying health insurance thru the VA , which is tri care here in Florida, and she was on it, she should be covered for life,

Hope this helped. If you need to know the name of that lawyer, contact me, you have me on IM.

    take care, hope this helped.

She needs to contact the Veterans Affairs service office. She can speak with a rep for the specific entitlements (usually someone from the VFW or American Legion fills that role) There should be a death benefit, and possibly (depending on percentage of disability he had), a monthly stipend. She's also entitled to a funeral at a national cemetery (buried on top of her husband) at no cost.

If he died because of his service-connected disabilities, she could be eligible for spousal benefits. Or if he had an appeal pending with the VA, she might still be entitled to the outcome of that.

Otherwise, not so much. Her disabilities don't matter in the eyes of the VA - she didn't serve.

I'm not really sure, but I would think she is entitled to some sort of benefits. She should check with her local VA and find out what the benefits are. I wish her much luck.

Yes, she should be getting SOME benefits; his social security, and possibly more. Contact the VA. ( Also might want to confer with a lawyer ) !

my father served in wwwII. He died in 1972, which was unrelated to his service in the war. Is my mother, who never remarried, entitled to any VA benefits this many years after his service?

I worked in a job for distinctive years the place I frequently dealt with veterans and their reward; in no way ran for the time of an occasion the place the V.A. paid for any burial fees different than for the provider member.
