How do you think Star wars prequels could of been better?

I can agree with what "J.mayhem" says to a point but there were reasons for some of what he disliked. The OT was supposed to be the view of a galaxy that had been under the oppression of the Empire for almost 20 years and to show how uncaring the Empire was about the "common people" of the galaxy. The prequels needed to look different ... maybe Lucas did take it a little to far into the "perfect world" view but if contrast was what he was going for he got it. As for character development, it's hard to develop a character who is already "established" like Vader and Ben and Palpatine and others.

As for making them better ... ironically I've never really looked at it that way ... lol ... I've always focused on why they didn't work as well as the OT ... the things I've come up with might answer them though.

First and foremost ... when Lucas decided to make the prequel movies he had basically chosen an impossible task ... make 3 more movies as good or better than the OT ... it wasn't possible especially since he was locked into a story that had the ending already known.

Second, he forgot that while he is a master storyteller ... he is a absolutely horrid writer of dialog ... one of the things that made ep V, & VI work was that he had screen writers help him take his story and put it into understandable words. He wrote the scripts for the 3 movies and it showed big time.

Third, he seemed to fall in love with all the spectacular new FX things he could do and how "pretty" it looked when he blew things up that he forgot that the major thing that carried the SW movies was the story ... not the "bling".

Fourth, and probably the biggest reason ... Fan arrogance/pigheadness. There were 16 years between the release of these two trilogies. During that time many fans had already made up the "story" of what would happen in that time in their heads, myself included. I "knew" what the Clone Wars were ... I 'knew" how Luke & Leia were born ... I "knew" how the epic duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin ended up forcing Vader into the "suit" ... I "knew" all of this because I had made the story up for myself. When the movies came out and it didn't match the story in my head and that of other fans we got ticked off because of it ... I know I was. After I saw ep 1 I walked out of the theater thinking "Damn ... that was a great lightsabre duel at the end but what the heck was all that other crap" ... by the time ep 2 came out I had realized that Lucas wasn't telling my story he was telling his and I started to become excited about seeing where he was taking the story. Ep 2 didn't measure up in my eyes either but looking back I can see that much of what I didn't like was the way Hayden Christenson handled a sword ... I knew this epic duel was coming up and I didn't think Hayden was up to the task ... big time wrong about that because just before ep 3 came out it was pretty much a given that fans had been disappointed in different way with the first two so Lucas knew he had to "knock one out of the park" with ep 3 and he did NOT disappoint ... IMHO ep 3 rocked from start to finish ... lots of bad dialog for sure but the story kept you moving with it.

I guess one of the things I say here could have made them better ... if Lucas had used screen writers to turn his story into a script ... got think that would have made them at least 30% 'better'.

May The Force Be With You ...

well a lot of ways.lol.one of the big things for me was the CGI and FX.It just looked too clean and fake.I know it was before the deterioration & corruption from the empire, but it was just so different from the world established in the original 3 films.we all knew what was going to happen and the prequels just missed at making the journey to episode IV seem interesting, like they were working for one big set up instead of developing the characters and making us care about them and feel that what was happening was actually important.I think it's just a classic case of the plot getting in the way of what shoulda been 3 more of the greatest movies ever.

They could have had better effects, but then again it was the 70's. But that's all I can think of, I think George Lucas did all he could for the first three. I bet he knew they didn't have the technology they needed for Episodes 1-3. Nice name by the way, I have a '71 Pontiac GTO.....I hate it D:

Jar Jar needed to not be in them and Darth Maul needed to not be killed in the first one. I think three movies with Darth Maul would have been awesome!
