Was Edward Kennedy the greatest Senator of our time?

In my opinion yes, every major peice of legislation had his name on it. From the Civil Rights Act to the Disability Act, he has fought for equal rights for all American regardless of race, physical abilities etc. He was the Lion of the Senate who has fought his entire life for Health Care for all Americans.

keep on, enable's be truthful precise right here: The Civil Rights Act vote have been given right here till now the airplane crash. He wouldn't have stood, on the Senate floor or everywhere else, for months in a jointly as. He wasn't Superman, in spite of each and each ingredient. (If he grew to become, he does not have necessary a airplane.) The national maximum cancers Act is the particularly outstanding one, in case you think of of roughly it: President Nixon asked Congress to bypass an initiative to conflict maximum cancers. as quickly as you think of roughly the contest between Nixon and the Kennedy brothers -- the two till now and after this, by way of fact the 1974 promoting campaign finance regulation you element out delivers info -- this grew to become an excellent ingredient, that those 2 person men, each and each maximum of circumstances an ideologue, ought to placed partisanship aside for the better useful solid. whether the super question is not any count quantity if he grew to become the main suitable Senator of our time. observing each ingredient you listed, I incredibly have not have been given any theory who else ought to even come close. indoors the staggering 20th Century, there are purely some contenders. Robert Wagner of long island (father of a later Mayor of NYC) wrote the Social protection Act that FDR asked for and the national labor kin contributors Act, 2 important products of regulation -- and that grew to become purely in one 12 months, 1935. yet with the help of skill of the time of his 1979-80 run for President, Ted had already racked up adequate achievements to surpass that. enable's settle for it, he grew to become plenty better qualified for President than Jack grew to become on the time of his promoting campaign, and particularly better useful than Bobby on the time of his. and then he had purely approximately yet yet another 30 years of accomplishments, to declare no longer something of the Senators he led to, including the present President, vice president and Secretary of State.

It's too early to tell. Many people in W.Va. would give that honor to Robert Byrd. I'm partial to Daniel Moynihan for his upright behavior as well as his effective work in the Senate and the U.N.

Mary Jo Kopechne's family would disagree.

I will assume that those of you that are being so harshly critical of Senator Kennedy will also want no part in any legislative efforts he has authored and succeeded in passing into law. So:

-If you or your loved ones get cancer, do not use any treatments designed by the National Cancer Institute (National Cancer Act of 1971)

-If someone in your immediate family or you yourself do get cancer, do not take any Family Medical Leave (FMLA). Loose your job if necessary. (FMLA of 1991)

-If you change jobs and thereby switch insurance coverage, make sure to tell your new provider that it is ok with you if they do not cover you due to pre-existing conditions. If the Medical Records clerk at your Doctor's office wants to discuss your treatment loudly on the phone with their husband, tell her that is just fine. (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)

-If you become disabled and someone refuses to hire you because you walk with a cane or have diabetes, tell them you certainly understand..even though those things have no bearing on the job you would do. (Americans with Disabilities Act)

There are many more, but I am sure you are researching all of them so that you won't be impacted by all the terrible things this evil vile elitist liberal murdering Kennedy did.

And to TeddyDied...it is nice to see how mature your response was...if you have nothing constructive, name calling really gets it done. Since Senator Kennedy was also instrumental in raising the minimum wage multiple times, I'd imagine you HAVE used something he has worked on. I won't stoop to your level though...

As for murderous scum, I imagine you LOVED Laura Bush who ran a stop sign and KILLED a boy and WAS NEVER CHARGED even though the police report said she ran the stop sign...

"According to the two-page accident report, Laura Welch was driving her Chevrolet sedan on a clear night shortly after 8 p.m. on Nov. 6, 1963, when she drove into an intersection and struck a Corvair sedan driven by 17-year-old Michael Douglas.

Although previous news accounts have reported Douglas was thrown from the car and broke his neck, those details were not in the report.

The speed of Laura Bush's car was illegible on the report. The speed limit for the road was 55.

Laura Bush and her passenger, Judy Dykes, also 17, were taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to an accident account printed at the time in the Midland Reporter-Telegram.

The police report indicates no charges were filed. That section of the report was left blank."

Perhaps. Because he lived longer than his brothers, he was able to enact legislation that helped millions of poor people. The faceless, anonymous haters on this board who are glad he is dead haven't accomplished 1 percent of Ted Kennedy's feats, yet yell from their caves disrespecting the dead. Bible thumping hypocrites.

You must be kidding. He never lived the way he preached, if he did he would have dissolved the Kennedy Family Foundation and spread his wealth around. Instead, he wanted to spread OTHER people's money around.

Kennedy was just another overstuffed, pompous, liberal jerk who never really worked a day in his life, and he lived like royalty.

Now he can fight fires and brimstone.

No, sorry... not even close. He had the good fortune to be born into a wealthy family - bought his way into and out of every situation he ever faced, and cursed this country with more foul laws and restrictions than can be counted.

He was one of the greatest, but he has lots of company, from Dirksen to Goldwater to LBJ.

Greatness is not measured by how much someone is liked or disliked.
