President Obama's Education Speech?

Ok. So Obama's speech is posted online. I don't see any 'indoctrination' in it, but what do you think?

http://www.whitehouse.gov/MediaResources/PreparedS...

Update:

Ok. So there are people who think it is still "pure indoctrination". I ask you where in the speech something that will indoctrinate our kids is?

Now, the speech is rather sappy and dull. If I were sitting in high school, I probably would be doing homework for another class or sleeping, not listening to another person telling me to stay in school and the such.

Update 2:

Oh yeah. I'm a conservative and a Republican too. So put that in your pipe and smoke it :-)

Seems OK to me. I was a bit surprised he finished with God bless you, and God bless America. I would have pegged Obama as someone who thought that was inappropriate in schools. Obviously Obama could have revised the speech in response to the public feedback. We'll probably never know. I don't think it is a particularly interesting or original speech. It seems to be a bit too much about Obama himself. I'm not sure kids are going to get much from it, but I don't see it hurting either.

I'm more concerned with the after speech discussion. I don't think it's a secret that the majority of teachers are liberal. The dept of education also had provided some questionable discussion suggestions, which were subsequently retracted.

    I'm very conservative.

The speech isn't. However it doesn't cover the elementary level well.

It's the worksheets that the department of education has put with it that is troubling.

Sorry but I don't trust educators in terms of politics since every school levy for teacher salary increase I have seen has STUDENTS being the major vocal supporters and not the teachers that the levies would benefit the most. These are the people that are working with the students with those worksheets. Sorry but I don't like that aspect of it.

Ok, everythingspeachy, it is not just K-6, it is K-12, it is even mentioned in the speech that he is at a high school and is talking to all students in all grades. Guess you didn't really read the speech, did you. There is nothing about indoctrination in it either, another right wing scare tactic.

    Hey peachy,

    1. The speech is for all students K through 12.

    2. Separation of church and state has nothing to do with presidents giving speeches to school children.

    3. Many of the talking points that are recommended focus on addressing what type of personal responsibility students can take.

Of course there isn't any "indoctrination" in it. The Obama haters have sailed right past irrational to insane.

    EDIT:

This question really interested me so I had to come back and check out the answers. There is something that I just don't get and I'm hoping someone here can explain it to me.

Okay, everyone who says they are so concerned with the after activities the kids will be doing and the discussions and liberal teachers, etc? Do you trust the teachers who spend more of their time with your kids than you do yourself?

You must trust them, whether you think they are liberal or not, or you wouldn't put up with them having the freedom to talk to your children 5 days out of the week. But now all of a sudden, because it's a President you really dislike, you don't trust those same teachers to sponsor conversation or written commentary within the strictest guidelines of your school board.

It just isn't rational to be so worked up about this. You've seen the speech. It isn't indoctrination. It's all about education and motivation. I just don't understand how any of you can possibly really believe that any classroom activity or discussion is going to be of such a weighty serious substance that your child would be in danger of being coaxed or coached into something unacceptable.

    Please, think about this.

Well NOW they say it wasn't the REAL speech he intended to give. I am so amazed at the number of psychics on the Right. Makes them feel important. Wait, isn't that a symptom of mental illness?

Staying in school and studying is a Communist Plot!

Ignorance is Freedom! Stop the Marxist indoctrination of Math and Science.

P.S. Where were these Anti-Schoolers when I was struggling with Math in school?

    Oh, they weren't in school.

Pure indoctrination: look kids I am just like you, I hate getting up early, my family was broken too, and if you just support me, you can someday be President.

Let's make your first day of school all about ME, the rest of the kids can be mean but you have ME as a friend, I will always be there, now write a paper about how great I am so you don't ever forget this day.

Worse than I thought actually, I really did not have much of a problem with it until NOW.

@MJ.....way to go, why bother reading a whole page when you can just say you agree with whatever the Liberals tell you to. Thank you for proving my point.

IT IS NOT THE SPEECH we object to. AGAIN..and AGAIN and AGAIN..why can't you dems LISTEN ? Are you so busy screaming and berating everyone that disagrees with you that you can't LISTEN?

IT is simply the fact that it is for Pre K up to 6th grade. WHY is he not talking to those in high school who HE SHOULD Be telling to stay in school...stop having babies out of wedlock...and go to college?

It isn't the speech. IT is that the teachers download talking points FROM HIM about what to talk about before , during and after the speech and giving the kids HOMEWORK on his speech!

If you can't have prayers in the school..then you can't have the politics.

IT IS THE POLICY and HOW THEY GO ABOUT THIS!

If it was just the speech...ok...I wouldn't have a problem with it...but it is HIS way of doing it.

"give me a child until he is 12 and I will have that child for life"

Hitler did this too. Don't laugh...if you take one step and it is innocent...then another and it ramps up things...then another step because precedent has been set....when do you turn back the clock when he IS INDOCTRINATING children?

NOPE NOPE NOPE! NO WAY...leave the little kids alone.

If he is so interested in America's edcuation...why not the ones that are goofing off..wearing their pants down around their ankles....having babies out of wedlock and more concerned with SEX than school?

What is a pre k and 6th grader going to remember about this? NOT MUCH.....

    LEAVE the KIDS ALONE!

Oh..and if BO was really concerned about the dumbing down of America...then outlaw computers and calculators and stop the insanity of the talk about not having to teach kids how to write in 5 years but just teaching them keyboarding. ARE you SERIOUS? They aren't going to teach them how to write because they can type? Just like they dont' have to think about math and learn how to make change...computers do it for them.

I am sorry..this teaches your brain how to solve problems and it teaches NOT to be dependent on machines to show your intelligence.

Talk to him about that. Not teaching writing in 5 years....give me a break! Typical liberal move there...keep the kids dumb so they will think they continue to have the wool pulled over their eyes and vote in bozo's!

Outsider...then he changed it like they changed the speech. I went to the ed.gov site and it was ORIGINALLY for pre k to 6th grade..THOSE ARE THE ONES that were going to be talked to and have homework for. Holding them accountable for that homework at the end of the year by discussing where they failed or succeeded in what they promised to BOZO

I was AT that site...two weeks ago...and I read it. If they changed it...then that is YOUR problem they are deceiving you YET AGAIN! Why do you think they didn't show the speech until NOW? It wasn't available when it was put out there....think for once...ok?
