Computer screen issue?
My computer screen started going dim and making a high pitched noise last night intermittently, but it increased in frequency to the point where it is constantly doing it now. If I turn down the display brightness, the sound get quiter and goes away. Are there any ideas on what might have caused this?
It's a Dell Inspiron E1705 and is 2 years old if that helps.
It's a flat screen on a laptop.

ive never known that to happen with flatscreens, as shown in your laptop. im no expert with laptops, but i think thats a problem in one of the power distribution nodes. this explains the dimming of your screen. you say when you turn it down the problem goes away. maybe the screen didnt like the power input settings you had it at before (i.e. brightness) i think you should have an electrical diagnostic done, at some sort of computer technician place.

Is this a CRT screen (i.e. not a thin flat screen?)
If so then one of your capacitors is going and it won't be long before the monitor is dead. Nothing you can do about it really and it will be cheaper to get another screen than to have this one fixed.
If it is a flat screen then it is probably still terminal - but have never come accross this problem with a flat screen.
