How long after treatment will the fleas die on a kitten?
My family and I are new to the pet owning world! We received two 7 wk old kittens that were supposedly treated for fleas and worms. Once we got them, we realized they do have fleas and possibly worms. We have not brought them into our house because we do not want it to get infested and have a bigger mess to clean up. We bathed them with Dawn outside in a bucket and went to the pet store and bought PurrScriptions 5 way protection Squeeze-On and gave each of them half a container as recommended by our vet. How long after treatment will they be free of fleas? How soon after treatment can I give them a bath to clean off the dead fleas? I know they don't have much cause you only see a flea every once and awhile. I just want to make sure they get treated and can come inside from being secluded in a blocked off cage outside. I have checked their poop and it does not have white grains as my vet said it would for worms. Is there another type of worm they could get and how do I know and treat that?

The pet store products sometimes never work. Most spot-ons take 48 hours to have their full effect. If you see fleas after that, you may need to try something else. Your better bet would be Frontline Plus or Revolution. Revolution is safe for cats 6 weeks and older. If the PurrScriptions doesn't say that it is waterproof, then it probably isn't. (If it does say waterproof, wait 48 hours before bathing). You don't need to wash off the dead fleas anyway - the kittens will groom most of them off and you can use a flea comb to get the reast.
If you keep them on Frontline or Revolution, then your house won't ever have a big flea problem. (Any few eggs that did get into your house would just get killed later when they matured into an adult flea, jumped on your kitten and died. Right now, it's not healthy to keep them outside. They are not fully vaccinated and they have very delicate immune systems. If they were my cats, I'd bring them in now, start Revolution as soon as I could, and not worry too much.
There's LOTS of types of worms and other intestinal parasites kittens can get. Only tapeworms are routinely visible in feces (or on their rear ends) as white rice specks. Most kittens and puppies have roundworms, but coccidia is also common in kitties. You find out by having your vet check a stool sample, and you treat it with prescribed medication (once the vet has diagnosed the worms). Revolution will also help control roundworms and hookworms. Intestinal parasites will not cause a household problem.

You didn't say how old your kitten is and what you treated the kitten with. If it is a over the counter flea med, it could have bad if not fatal effects. There are no over the counter worming meds that work. A few days won't matter. The bath won't work, and you will be doing more harm than good.when those worms are expelled from the body, they die is seconds. Don't worry, just wash your hands after cleaning the kitty litter and you will be fine. Tell the vet that you already put a flea gel on him because you cannot double dose him.
