My kitten...he is 5 1/2 months old and....?

My kitten I got at 3 months ( was born on a farm and has had his shots and was wormed back in June I think) he is now 5 and a 1/2 months old. He has always been a licker from day one...he licks...people and his privates. I had him fixed 2 weeks ago and he is still a huge fan of licking his private area...and then of course us.

He also has very soft bowel movements they are NOT diarrhea. They are just not solid but very very soft. He goes outside and covers his bowels but inside he doesn't....he scratches the side of his litter box and sometimes the toilet bowel rather than covering his bowels.

He eats as he wants...Purina kitten food.

Update:

Thanks to all who have answered so far...I feel a lot better....I am going outta town this weekend and didn't want to leave him with the neighbors if he was sick!!

He is on dry food. I am changing his litter...I just don't like the smell of the one I have now..it's all me...so I bought a different kind...my third mind you....I'm looking for a great brand that doesn't put a perfume kinda smell in the air just covers up his odor as best I can....

If his bowel movements are soft, that is diarrhea. Diarrhea doesn't have to be very liquid or watery - all it has to be is softer than normal and/or more frequent. I'd recommend having the vet check a stool sample. It's possible that the deworming wasn't fully effective or that he picked up new worms since.

The licking doesn't sound like a problem - and every cat I've ever known (intact or neutered) has paid extra attention to their groin. Just as long as he's not pulling hair out or making his skin irritated, he should be fine.

And some cats don't bury their excrement in the litter box. He's acting just like my cat does - after she defecates, she scrapes her paw against everything (wall, side of the box, furniture) except the actual litter. It's possible that he doesn't like the feel of the litter or that it's too dirty - try cleaning it more often and/or changing the type of litter - pick something with a different texture - and see if that helps. But if it doesn't help, then this behavior probably won't be much of a problem.

Changing food may help his stool . . . or not. I'd have the vet check for parasites first - in a kitten parasites are MUCH more likely to cause soft stool than the diet is. You really need to consider measuring out his food for him and controlling the amount he eats. If you let him eat what he likes, he WILL get fat and that will put him at risk of many health problems as he ages. It's better to start good diet habits now.

Seriously I wouldn't worry about you cat. He's fine. The licking comes natural. As for the soft stool, could be food. Are you feeding him wet food? If so, try cutting back some. Wet food has Alto of lubricate in it.Some cats will not cover their stool. It's a show of "I'm the boss cat, get use to it". I have cats that also scratch the sides of the litter box. All you have said is normal beaovior for cats.
