How do I motivate my 9 y/o daughter to do her homework?
She is very smart and on the honor roll but it is a battle every night to get her to do her homework. She is also on the verge of getting detention for handing in late assignments.

Well, I using rewards to get a child to something they should be doing anyway is never ideal.
But it is a great motivator, promise her a small reward at the end of the week if she completes all of her homework the first time she's asked.
It can be something simple like $5.00 or taking her out to dinner at McDonald's.

We have a similar problem with our 10year old, so we have a pocket money system, also i've made it very clear to her, absolutly NO tv, or computer or anything until homework is done, so its come in, have snack/ drink then do her homework and she's free for the rest of the evening now she knows that she just gets on with it which is good.
Also if she dosen't do her homework she can't have any friends over, you need to get her into routine :)

Don't make homework sound boring. What I mean is, don't say things like, "If you don't do your homework you wont have your pocket money this week." Because that makes homework sound unpositive, and like something she has to do.
Make it seem like she has an option, when you know really she will say yes to doing it. Have a reward rather than taking something away. For example, say, "If you do your homework we will go swimming (or something else she likes to do) later."
Can you see what I'm doing? I'm just using positives rather the negatives. Hope you understand!
