Anyone recently hire a band or DJ for their wedding reception?

I'm in a group and we'er looking to play some weddings among other things. We were wondering what the going rate was these days for well known local bands and even DJs.

We had an idea of what bands got before the recession hit, but were wondering if prices had changed since the downturn. Really popular local bands used to command $10,000, but not sure if they get that these days.

I'm in the Philly area.

Thanks!

Update:

Let me clarify - we weren't thinking $10,000 for ourselves. One of the guys had a few radio hits back in the day and has a recognizable name, but we're not assuming we can charge a ton of money or anything.

Im not in the area, but just to give you an idea for what it's like here in Central WI. I have seen DJ prices vary from $400-$1300. Bands here are a little more from $800-$1500.

I personally decided I wanted to save as much money as possible and went with a friend for $400 plus got an extra hour of DJ time.

There is always a demand for music at any wedding event. I would start out at a lower competitive price until you get a reputation for yourselves. If you are that "good" then you are allowed to slowly raise your rate. The higher the demand for you or more bookings you get should depend on your going price!

    Good luck with your business!

$10,000? Sheesh thats a lot of cash! Thats half of what my wedding cost. There is no way I'd spend that much on a band or DJ. I'm in the Philly area as well and our DJ cost us about $700. If we went with a band, I probably would have spent about $3,000 but nothing more than that!

Depends on the quality of the band. We are spending $15,000 on our evening band and $10,000 on a string quartet for the luncheon. In my area, a decent band commands $8000 or more. DJs go for $2000+. There are certainly lesser-priced options but you often get what you pay for.

no remember how small your budget is, i think you're able to make it a undeniable occasion. there is plenty you may shop on while in comparison with regular wedding ceremony shops and companies. in case you may think of exterior the field, you may create a dream wedding ceremony for your self. think of of the different reception venues there are and how plenty each and every expenditures? perhaps you may host it in one in all your acquaintances’ properties which could accommodate 50 human beings actual,. Then all you're able to issue approximately is the catering which in case you have the time to study, can shop you a equipment deal! For entertainment, ask one in all your acquaintances who can sing, and ask them to accomplish your regularly occurring songs. this implies saving hundreds of dollars you would be able to could pay for professional bands and so on. Plus it will make it greater very own. on the tip, with slightly creativity and foresight (plus study), you're able to create a $3000 wedding ceremony to look like a $20,000 wedding ceremony!

Uh... $10,000 is WAY too high!! You will definitely limit yourself on potential customers if you set a dollar amount anywhere near that!

I just hired a band and it only cost me $690.
