For those who believe in Eternal Security, do you agree with Charles Stanley...?
... that a 'saved' person would go to heaven despite committing suicide?
I do not believe that Samson committed suicide. Samson's destiny was to deliver Israel out of the hands of the Philistines. Samson did not fulfill his destiny until this moment when he was in the Philistine temple. Samson was willing to die and it says in Judges 16:30: So the dead which he slew at his death were more than [they] which he slew in his life. God does not condone suicide.
I read about a suicidal woman who called into a radio station. She said to the two men, "If I knew I was going to Heaven, I would do it." This was their opportunity to counsel this poor woman. One made an attempt to talk her out of it while the other said, "You are eternally secure. Anyone who has trusted in Christ is eternally secure ...." He was in essence telling this woman who took the time to call, which was a cry for help, that "if you commit suicide, you don't have to worry about your salvation. You are eternally secure because you trust in Christ." This is a false doctrine.
John 10:27-29 :
The sheep hear Jesus' voice (they listen or heed it) Jesus knows them. There are some who think that they are saved but to these He will say, "I do not know you." Even though they do things in His name, they do not do the will of the Father. The sheep follow Jesus. They are like the believers mentioned in Rev. 14:4. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They remain faithful to Him and are obedient to God. They do not allow others to lead them away from the Lamb. They do not allow themselves to be plucked from His hand.
In Romans 8:38-39, Paul is assuring believers that no matter what we are going through, we are not alone. None of these things could drive us away or separate us from God's love. Paul says we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. This is not a reference to eternal security. It is telling us that during those dark hours when we do not feel God's presence, He is there. He gives us this wonderful promise in Isaiah 43:2.

A person who commits suicide is not quite in their right mind, or perhaps they are just overcome with the struggles of life. A suicide is a fast imposed death, but many of us kill ourselves slowly everyday. Perhaps overeating, smoking, not exercising, overworking, worrying, complaining, etc., but none of these will keep a believer from getting to heaven. God can judge the person's state of mind, and what is more he can surely judge their heart.
Also remember Samson. He prayed to God, and God answering gave Samson the strenght to pull down the Philistine temple. In pulling down the temple Samson not only killed the enemies of God, but he also killed himself. Who among us can say with certainity that Samson lost his eternal security?
John 10:27-29 (King James Version)
27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
Romans 8:38-39 (King James Version)
38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A Catholic who LEGITIMATELY completes either the Nine First Fridays Devotion or Five First Saturdays Devotion would go to heaven even if (s)he later decided to commit suicide. The Virgin Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces, would obtain for that person, for example, that after they took the action to kill themselves but before they died they would repent. There still might be a harsh purgatory sentence, however.

If you are truly saved then yes. How can we judge another's motivations for comitting suicide? Since we can't truly judge whether a person is saved just because they SEEM to live a godly lifestyle, then how can WE judge just the opposite. I believe that these kind of things when taken seriously are the foolish debates that the Bible warns us to stay away from.

I don't believe in the 'going to heaven ' part, but yes, ones salvation and eternal life is secure in the work of Jesus on the cross. It is not affected by any mental sickness and despair that may have brought on suicide. Thanks for asking.
