Did Wainwright and Sabbathia hurt their teams on Friday?

Both started meaningless games to try to get win #20. Sabbathia got bombed and the Cardinal bullpen blew a 6-1 lead left by Wainwright. Is 20 wins really that important? They both are Cy Young candidates without the 20 wins - in fact Wainwright should win it regardless. But now will these aces be ready for the playoffs?

Update:

@what hump? can't disagree with you that Mjares was stupid. But he isn't the ace of the team, and if the Twins get in, he won't be counted upon to start games on three days rest like CC and Wainwright.

Yes they are meaningless games but you don't want your ace to sit for 10-14 days then jump into the playoffs. Sometimes they treat it more like a spring training game, working on a pitch/location etc... Its more just to stay in game shape.

Sabathia did, but Wainwright only allowed 1 run in 6 innings and then the bullpen blew it.

It probably hurt Wainwright more than Sabathia.

Personally, i dont think Sabathia has a chance at the Cy Young, i think Greinke got that in the bag, but it could of possibly hurt Wainwright, although i think Chris Carpenter has a better chance at it.

I personally hope C.C doesn't win Cy Young in his first year. That just builts the pressure of expecting not 20 wins, but more then that and also having an era of under 3. C.C. doesn't handle that well under pressure. We hope Girardi will tell him in the playoffs it doesn't matter if he wins game 1 or not since he got backup pitchers

No, but Sabathia probably lost whatever chance he had at the Cy Young. Now if you want an example of a pitcher trying to hurt his team, let's talk about your boy Mijares.

well first of all cc is not a cy young canidate. Zack grenke will walk away with it easily and noif they were hat good they would want to be on a rythm going into the playoffs and they don't want like 20 days rest
