Are you saying it's okay to slaughter anyone who does not "believe in God"?

Judging by the majority of answers received to a previous question - I get the impression that it is perfectly fine to kill, maim, steal from and cause grievous harm to any one or any group of people who do not believe in "God" the same way readers of the bible do.

I don't understand this form of thinking.

Could somebody please explain to me why this is a morally proper course to take?

**** The other question (so you know what I'm referring to.

I don't get it either. It's just stupid. Why would they try to make themselves seem peaceful and good when they believe in attacking everyone with different beliefs.

You still ask questions mocking God, making him look bad, it never ceases. Again i tell you unless we are born again we are murderers toward God because our body is sinful and sin is natural to us. Sin is like a cancer, if left untreated (by Christ/salvation) then the cancer will consume us and lead us to death. If you don't accept the truth, then why question if you have a wall built up for no one to give you a truthful answer, would you rather a lie?

    Jeremiah 13:6-11

6 A long time afterward the Lord said to me, “Go back to the Euphrates and get the loincloth I told you to hide there.” 7 So I went to the Euphrates and dug it out of the hole where I had hidden it. But now it was rotting and falling apart. The loincloth was good for nothing.

8 Then I received this message from the Lord: 9 “This is what the Lord says: This shows how I will rot away the pride of Judah and Jerusalem. 10 These wicked people refuse to listen to me. They stubbornly follow their own desires and worship other gods. Therefore, they will become like this loincloth—good for nothing!

11 As a loincloth clings to a man’s waist, so I created Judah and Israel to cling to me, says the Lord. They were to be my people, my pride, my glory—an honor to my name. But they would not listen to me.

Right. We probably shouldn't have stopped Hitler either. If you actually read the Bible, it's quite plainly stated that there are evil people in the world. The cultures and people God told the Israelites to destroy, in this case, were pagan cultures who practiced things like child sacrifice. They were violent warring nations in themselves. So, if you run across some sadistic, mass murderer like Osama Bin Laden, you should probably let your desire for peace and love to outweigh the demand for justice. If everything were really that simple!

FYI, if you also read the rest of the Bible, there were a lot of other cultures God did not command the Israelites to conquer and they were to co-exist with. You're only looking at a very small, very narrow-minded view of the whole story.

Finally, yes, if there were a group who practiced barbaric, immoral acts such as sacrificing their children, abusing teenage girls, and other abuses, and God convicted me that they were to be dealt with, I would deal with them. Would you, as a loving, compassionate person just let them continue for the sake of "harmony"?

uh, no I'm not...if people actually believed that, you'd see everyone who's religious running around murdering everyone who doesn't believe in their god. That's an absolutely rediculous question!

Jesus is my God, and he never said anything remotely similar to what you're suggesting. have a nice day

No human being has the right to play God. Only God has the right to take us out of this world.

    You're generalizing.

G-d told the Israelites to do so in the Chumash, but nowadays we're governed by civil law which says that doing so is illegal.

It's the same reason Jews don't go around sacrificing cows on altars.
