If modern Christianity has nothing to do with medieval Christian atrocities, then how do you explain this?

http://ww2.cox.com/myconnection/kansas/today/news/...

we always hear the 'real' Christians or 'modern' Christians wouldn't do this... yet it seems to keep happening over and over and over.

Do not incidents like this demonstrate a serious core problem with even the desire to inflict a Christian world-view upon everyone?

Individuals can and should believe what they want. But when institutions form to push a set of beliefs onto others, isn't this inevitable?

I am sometimes amazed at the lack of knowledge of what combining Christianity (or any mono theistic religion) and govt does. I swear, Christians manage somehow to completely ignore hundreds of years of history. I can't imagine how the Muslim countries are even more ignorant of the consequences.

BillMac, that evil Sarah Palin creature, whom so many wanted to help run our country (into the ground) is video taped participating (recently) in some ceremony, at her Evangelical church, with some pastor from Kenya who was 'clearing' her of evil spirits and protecting her from WITCHES!

The founding fathers wanted absolutely no religion mixed with govt. Why can't you Christians understand that? It's it the freaking CONSTITUTION!

Churches are social entities and are influenced by local mores and beliefs. It is apparent that these Pastors are as well. These cultural fears, such as witch craft, would exist even outside these gatherings of churchgoers. While they may be using Christianity to justify their actions, it does not mean that Christians or Christianity condones such activity.

This is not a "serious core problem" of the evangelistic efforts of Christian institutions, but a situational reflection of issues within the current cultural mores of the people where those churches are established. In fact, these churches often make positive social changes and are helpful in those communities they serve.

Seems you are more interested in pushing your own set of beliefs on others... that Christianity and other religions are responsible for the evil that is done in this world. Your belief in this generalization does not make it true. What is done in the name of a religion does not always truly reflect that religion.

Christians cherry-pick with the best of 'em.

I explain that by saying, "People believe a lot of crap"... mostly the problem is simply irrational thought, but when entire cultures have been irrational for thousands of years, it doesn't turn around overnight.

I bet you'll get answers like,"the people that did that weren't real christians" of some crap like that. Any excuse to get out of getting in trouble.
