Why are people pigeonholes into being 100 percent 'conservative' or 'liberal'? Aren't most of us a mix of both?

I'm a liberal, however some of my views could be seen as 'conservative'. I'm against late term abortions and believe that Abortion should be very regulated. I want the nation to LIVE WITHIN it's means and NOT borrow money. Ihowever I am for using our tax dollars to fund programs such as healthcare, etc) Also, I'm against illegal immigration. However, being gay, obviously I'm for gay rights. (however even I dont' care if it's called 'marriage'. As long as I get all the same rights as straight people do) and I am into spirituality and live a 'conservative' lifestyle personally. I don't do illegal drugs and I believe it's wrong to sleep around with people without being in a committed relationshiop. (wouldn't force this on others though). Also, I am Anti death penalty. Maybe I'm 70" liberal and 30% conservative?

Update:

Frank: After spending a lot of time in Canada I think their system is AWESOME. and most of the Canadian people would NEVER want to give it up. This system works and is used ot MOST countries. (call them socialist if you want their healthcare systems are better than ours

Update 2:

Doctor O: I don't understand why Americans view people as 'commodities" When it comes to someone's health and life and death I believe we should ALL have health insurance the way we All have to have car insurance for our cars. Are CARS more important than people?

Update 3:

regurugg: If universal healthcare doesn't work than why does almost every country in the world have it but us?

Other than the death penalty, I agree with all your other stated positions so it's funny that you call yourself a liberal and I call myself a conservative. I take my stance because I'm in business and am pro business and anti-union (I've been screwed by the union but that's another story).

I've changed my stance on the healthcare but I am not confident that our government will get it right. I heard on the news that the current proposal is over 1900 pages. 1900+ PAGES? That's outrageous!

There's too many politicians on the take and too many special interests with their fingers in the pie. I see us getting screwed royally.

I don't agree with your contention that other countries have better healthcare systems than ours just because they provide universal care.

I think this can get done and done right but I don't know if it can get done in the current political environment.

Yes, the VAST majority of Americans are liberal on some issues and conservative on some issues and that is why only a very small percentage of the people classify themselves as Liberal OR Conservative. Most of the people consider themselves in the middle somewhere.

The Canadian health care system is not great, I have Canadian friends who come visit me and go visit a doctor here.

They detest their system, however, EVEN if you believed that it was good doesn't mean that it will work here in the USA. Canada has a population of 30 million people, 1/10 the population of the USA and we therefore have different needs and results than other countries.

If England loves socialized medicine so much, why are they moving to get away from it?

I do not agree. I am 100% rock solid socialist born and bred into a Methodist household.

I do not hate Conservatives, or anyone else. I just feel sorry for them and know that their path is the wrong one.

Not everyone can make it in this life and thus they need help and that help is best when it comes directly from the people via their government. In other words, use tax money from the richer folk to assist the poor and help them find work.

Even Magaret Thatcher once called it, "The unacceptable face of capitalism" and she was right.

This liberal vs. conservative thing is basically an invention of Ronald Reagan, who used it as a big bait and switch to get people to forget about Watergate and vote for him - Karl "anything to win" Rove was involved of course.

Reagan ran on a platform that Carter was a high spending Liberal, and then promptly quadrupled the deficit himself with big spending.

It's all BS, and still is in the hands of hacks like Beck and Hannity.

Happens to me all the time.

Earlier some nut called me a left wing lunatic for asking a question critical of U.S. military operations that only listened to the huffington post and MSNBC even though I had souced neither and instead used a site that has nothing but numbers and figures. It had absolutely zero commentary. It was nothing but facts and data.

A second ago someone told me I should be more worried about the "civil war in my own republican party" rather than asking questions about health care reform.

This is one of the reasons I do not support political parties and consider them dangerous. They completely eliminate free thought and have a with us or against us mentality. It is quite the mind wash.

seek for the be conscious majority. It skill greater beneficial than a million/2. One vote is unquestionably a majority. And by using the way, united states of america prospered while one party controlled congress and the different controlled the white domicile. because of the fact that neither party would desire to do what they had to do, they labored mutually to do what they had to do. the two events ran wild while they have been given administration of the two the legislative and government branches. The exception to that would desire to be the final 2 years. The democrats intentionally stalled doing something beneficial for the rustic mutually as Bush develop into nevertheless president. they did no longer prefer him getting credit for what they did. so they led the rustic to disaster just to be sure that their guy could get elected president. So now the democrats have absolute potential and that they are tearing the rustic aside. i in my view pass over the days while a republican congress had to barter with a democrat president.

I prefer being called an individual human being. I believe everyone should be treated as individual human beings, and not placed in a certain category because of their views on one or two issues. People who call themselves ultra liberals or ultra conservatives annoy me because they seemingly fall in line with everything that is promoted by their particular side. I cannot do that. I refuse to do that. I make up my own mind about things, and do what's right for me.

I would say you are maybe 33% liberal and 33% conservative, with over 33% being in a state of confusion.

Socialism does not work. Canadians come to the US for medical treatment. Virtually no one from the US goes to Canada for medical procedures.

    I think I am 100% conservative.

I know what you're saying. I'm plenty conservative, without a doubt, but I could care less about abortion or gay marriage one way or the other.
