Last night, I was bored. And some of you should know me by now that I'm obsessive about making lists. I made a list of my favorite books, although it's not finished yet.

I'd have to break it down by genre. Classics: Goethe's Faust Contemporary: Odd Thomas Sci-Fi: The Ender series Fantasy: That's a tough one. I read an embarrassing amount of fantasy. Probably Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Westerns: Who can top Louis L`Amour's stuff (They're all the same story. Just told differently and well) Horror: Stephen King's The Stand Jeepers! I'm leaving too many out. Time to quit.

I like quite a few that you've listed here, namely the Stephen King books, LOTR trilogy, David Copperfield, Wizard of Oz, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Ray Bradbury books (especially Fahrenheit 451).

My favorite book of all time is 1984 by George Orwell.
I also love anything by Anne Rice (specifically the Vampire Chronicles, but I also like her Mayfair Witches saga), and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes.

I also love Anne Rule, and anything to do with history or religion.

Hold my hand I'm dying, I can't remember who wrote it and I have searched for another copy of this book to no avail, it is about the people and animals who wouldn't leave when they created the Lake Kariba from the Zambezi river.

I agree, Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings.

The Amber Chronicles by Roger Zelazny is another interesting series.  He managed to create a universe in which every other story ever written is just a sub-plot to his.
My buddies and I in high school used to say he cheated.   =]

Also like anything from Greg Bear, Timothy Zahn or Tad Williams.
