Have you heard about this?

This is a HUGE bit of news! It's especially important for the people in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, California to know about this. Declawing of cats is becoming ILLEGAL! Of course, I realize that people who have cats and live in those cities can just go to neighboring cities to have their cats declawed, but at least it's now illegal somewhere in the US! And at least it will be more difficult for residents of those cities to have the procedure done since they'll now have to drive to a vet's office farther away. So, what do you all think?

Yes I've heard, and I agree...It is HUGE news! I am absolutely thrilled!!

Although this is only a few cities in CA, it will spread. I'm sure of it. Eventually declawing will be banned nationally, as it is in the majority of European countries and Australia.

There is no justifiable reason for routine declawing. This has become the norm for pet owners who have more respect for their furniture, than they do for a living, breathing, FEELING creature.

Our pets need to be treated better. And this a good step in the right direction.

Thanks for spreading the news. Every little bit helps:)

Just a note....Although I am opposed to all non-medically needed cosmetic surgeries on pets, there is a huge difference between cropping, docking and declawing. Dogs don't have to walk on their ears or tail. Cats use those claws to stretch, dig in litter boxes, walk, run and jump. Any amputee will tell you that all of those things become very painful after the loss of bone and limb.

It is? Well, just if it was illegal everywhere in the world. Cats need their claws for defending themselves. And declawing is cruel. It's like getting the top of your finger cut off....for no reason!

I just decided not to get my two kitten declawed :) I didn't know how painful it is and how it's not just the claws that they take out. If it's becoming illegal then it must be pretty bad!

    Didn't hear about that.

I don't think it's right to cut off like half of a cat's paw. Especially because there are alternatives, like Soft Paws. I'm glad they're making it illegal. It's extremely painful for the cats, and no one deserves that.

Until they also make illegal cropping ears and docking tails, it's all a load of hot air.
