Cat Peeing Outside Of Litter Box?
Hello! I am in some desperate need of help. I have worked with a vet, took friends suggestions, and researched when cat's pee outside of their litter box, and so far nothing has worked! My cat Layla who is around 5 years old does not pee inside of her litter box. She pees right outside of it and has been for quite some time now. She is on a high quality diet so she does not have crystals and she was tested by the vet. There are the things that I have tried!
*Stress relieving scents and body rubs
*Changing the litter box to the location she pees
*Buying more litter boxes
*I didn't change the litter but after a while I did to see if that would help.
*I took her to the vet
*Scooped her box every time she went poop.
I am at the end of my rope and my husband is ready to give her away as a barn cat because she is ruining our floors! I don't want my baby girl to be outside in the cold! PLEASE HELP ME!!!
I forgot to add that she does poop inside of the litter box, but does not pee.
She has not been recently declawed and she was checked for a UTI. She was also checked for diabetes. I might go ahead and have her checked one more time for good measure because we can't keep doing this! :(
She does have a very large litter box. This is the litter box that I have for her, and the last time we were at the vet she weighed 8 pounds. She is a very small kitty for being 5!

Is she declawed? And if so, did she start peeing out of the box before or after the procedure?
Has the vet checked for a UTI recently?

Have you tried getting a bigger litter box? I read in a Vet Tech journal the other day in the library where I work (I forget which one or what date) that said that most commercial cat litter boxes are actually too small and that cats should have boxes that are big enough for them to fit from head to tail, and then half the body length again. The link below tells of something similar though!
I've had the same problem with one of my cats, but I literally don't have room in the only place my parents will allow me to keep a litter box in their house to get a bigger box. (I may soon settle for a longer one though because I'm tired of the simple chore of scooping the cat litter taking over 15 minutes to complete by trying to get the odor out!)

We used to have a cat who started out squatting but as he continued to pee, he stood up and peed on the wall. We took a second, smaller box and made a "backstop" with the smaller box on its side inside the bigger box. The pee just ran down the bottom of the backstop box and into the bigger box. Try something like that, or get an enclosed box (which has to be cleaned even more often, as the smell really builds up inside).

Wow that's rough. You could try to train her to use the toilet. At the big pet stores they have these litter boxes that you can put on your toilet and eventually the cat will use the toilet without the litter box. It might not work but you seem willing to try anything. Maybe it will inspire your kitty.
