I wonder if there is anyone out there who can help me find my father?

I don't know if I'm supposed to be asking a question like this, but it's important to me. I'm 55 years old and I've never known my biological father. Some people would say, "Jeez, You're 55 and you're still wondering about your dad? Get over it. He's probably dead." Well, if he's dead, I would like to know if he had a wife and kids. If I have aunts and uncles and other relatives that I've never known. I feel incomplete because I only have my mother's side of my family.

My wife and I have tried to locate him for a number of years with no luck. I'm hoping that someone out there will know of my father and be able to tell me where I can contact him or his family. So here goes. My father's name is Jerry Francis or Frances. He was in the Air Force in 1953 when he met my mother. He may have been stationed at Hempstead Air Field/Base on Long Island, New York. He may now be in his late 70s or early 80s. I know that some one will suggest that I contact the military records archive in St. Louis, but I can tell you that there was a fire and his military records were destroyed along with many others. I do appreciate any help I might receive and hope that this will end many years of frustration.

Update:

I don't have enough info for a computer search and I don't think he was from New York state.

    Hi, Have you tried looking for him on the computer. I have found a lot of old friends that way. It will cost a small fee but, all you have to do is put in his name, last known city and state, birth date etc. The more Information you have the better results you will get. Also, if you know where he last lived or know a vicinity he may live in, you can check the voter's registration there. You can, because of his age, check ancestry.com. You can check the bureau of vital statics in areas where he may have lived, or be living, to see if there may be a registered death certificate. You might try the Social Security Department and tell them you are his son. IF you have your birth certificate and it has his name on it as the father, you are much more likely to get them to give you information.

    Also, I strongly recommend that you go to this site: http://www.troythelocator.com/Main.asp. I just did and put in the name you have on your question and then put in New York. There are a number of people with that name.. It will cost you about $20.00 but, it will give you the Jerry Francis' that are listed, their other names if applicable, their address, relatives, phone number, age etc. Then, get on the phone. The site I gave you is the site of Troy Dunn, on the T.V. show, The Locator' It's pretty interesting to watch how he finds people. It really isn't that hard. You just have to really get in there and not leave a rock unturned.

    I hope you find him!! You never get over the loss of a parent even if they're alive but, not in your life. . You always wonder about your roots. It's important for you because there will always be that 'hole' in your life until you have some sort of closure.

    Good luck!! JOSA

    I'll tell you this much:

    I have no guarantees that you will for sure find him, but there is a great possibility. I will admit that I am only 14 years of age, but I have a high level of maturity, and feel I might be able to help you a little.

    Here's what you may be able to do: Pay for a background sheck, and a 24 hour pass - prefebly over a course of about 5 years. The backgroundcheckers should be able to get a hold of your father or someone in your/his family.

    Remember to never give up looking for him. Many doors may close, emotionally painful doors, but you will get a chance to find him if he is still alive (which I hop, for you, he is).

    Resources that you can visit for help on this - peoplefinders.com; peoplelookup.com; peekyou.com;

    Good luck on your search !
