Thalessemia is a genetic disorder. So in reality, there is no cure.
2 types of thalessemia - major and minor.
Despite medical advancement, unlikely there is a cure in next 5-8 yrs for major thal. As to minor, i think scientist may not even want to invest to do research to cure minor thal as it's not worth the time and effort. Well, that just my presumption.
Major - when born, will need blood transfusion every month. Most people with this type of thal do not live beyond 18 yrs of age.
Minor - people with this type of thal lives normally. Some may not even know they have thal unless they do a blood test. Those with minor thal, should avoid getting married to another person with thal minor also. So as to avoid the possibility of getting a baby with major thal.

yes it sure can...there are several variations with several different subtypes though, so the treatment depends on which form you have. Talk to your GP.
