CCW Handgun recommendation?
I will be looking soon for a new handgun for carry purposes. It will be a .40S&W and must have these qualities: Mag capacity of at least 10 rounds, decock lever, exposed hammer & DA/SA.
And before the GLOCK crowd goes off, I own a G20 and I love it, but these specs are what I want for a carry arm, so please keep your recommendations within these parameters.
Last two things: I am a chubby guy and would like something that would be comfortable to wear on my side and I would like to keep it semi-affordable (under 600 bucks, if possible). I have been looking at the FNP-40.
Thanks in advance for your input.

You will have trouble finding good EDC holsters for some of the suggested guns.
Your personal defense weapon should be as large and as powerful as you can shoot accurately and carry with a reasonable degree of comfort and concealment.
Your personal defense weapon should fit your hand perfectly.
You should be able to manipulate the controls of your weapon with either hand alone.
Your personal defense weapon should be of sturdy construction and be able to withstand heavy use and rough handling.
Your personal defense weapon should be accurate enough to consistently hit a target the size of a saucer at 10 yards quickly.
Select the largest caliber you can shoot well, and a caliber for which ammunition is readily available.
A good quality holster must be available for the model of pistol you intend to carry.

You should be able to step up to a SIG P-229, including a .357 SIG drop in barrel. 40S&W mags also accomodate the .357 SIG. Look for a factory rebuild with the blue label wrapped around the grip. You'll save a small fortune over brand new.
Source(s): I own 2 P-229's, one in each caliber. Love 'em. - ?Lv 71 decade ago
Look at a Stoeger Cougar~ $399 (9mm or 40 cal). Excellent quality, can't be beat.
It is the fore-runner to the Beretta Storm (8000).
If you don't like that- look at the CZ-75, or P06, ~$599.

The Ruger P944 would fit the bill.
Applying the safety decocks the hammer, which is the only difference from what you listed.

I would definitely recommend the FNP-40, especially for it's price.

Get what the cops have been using for backup guns since, well, forever: a snubnose .357. Extremely reliable, powerful, and concealable. You don't even need a holster if you are wearing jeans (I would recommend one anyway though).
