Were World Wars I and II "Christian" Wars?

No, but Christendom religions have great responsibility in it.

Catholic killed Catholic and Protestant killed Protestant while their shepards on both sides blessed their efforts and guns. WW1 and WW2.

Hitler did not begin his land assaults until his regime was approved by the Catholic Church.

That was done through a concordat signed by Pope Pius when Pius was a Cardinal.

It was discovered shortly after Allied force entered Italy, during WW2 that the Vatican had aim to reestablish the Holy Roman Empire once the world fell to the Axis regimes. So a certain portion of WW2 had religious shadowing in it. Vatican sought gain from an Axis victory should it occur. It didn't of course.

WW2 was inevitable for America and entered it when Japan attacked because of an oil embargo placed on them by the U.S..

Of all groups that claim christianity, only a few refused to partake in man's wars. They opted to show christian love for others by not fighting.

No war , for whatever reason it is fought, can be called Christian ,it flies in the face of the basic Christian faith and beliefs . Would you say the Muslim Jihad is a holy war? presuming , of course you are not of the Islamic faith God, Allah , does not take sides ,men must answer for their own actions

If any war in the history of mankind is Justifiable , it is in my opinion WW2 the evil of Nazism, the barbarity of the Japanese had to be eradicated for the good of all mankind .Had Germany/Japan won that conflict then the rest of humanity would have been enslaved ,and for some peoples/races extermination. Genocide would have taken on a whole new meaning ,and you would not be free to ask this question and i would not be free to answer it

I agree with all of the answers except the one by Chandler which opined that Israel was created bcause of the Holocaust. That's a bunch of bull. The partitioning of Palestine was backed by the Bristish since 1917 and was under consideration by the rest of the international community ever since then. The UN did not create Israel. It simply passed a resolution backing the divisionof Palestine into a Jewish and a non-Jewish state. When the British withdrew their troops, the jews moved into certain areas of palestine and battled the palestinains and the armies of several middle-east coutries for control of it. it's also important to know that there were plenty of Jews already in presnt-day Israel all during and immediately after WWII.

There is no such thing as a 'Christian' war. Jesus said at John 18:36: " “My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.” Earlier, at John 13:34, 35 he said to his disciples: "I am giving YOU a new commandment, that YOU love one another; just as I have loved YOU, that YOU also love one another. By this all will know that YOU are my disciples, if YOU have love among yourselves.”

However, both these wars saw millions of 'christians' fighting and killing other 'christians' because of nationalism. Clergy on both sides of the conflict were blessing the respective troops and praying for victory, knowing they were encouraging the killing of those who were supposed to have been their 'brothers'.

So they really weren't "Christian" wars as there were no Christians obeying what Jesus taught. Very unlike the first century Christians who were put to death for their non-violent stand. Imprisonment and death were also what happened to many true Christians during WWi &WWII who refused to take up arms against anyone.

No. They were territory wars. World War I was about Germany's expansion into the orginal Germanic Tribe regions as well as Ottoman Empire expansion. World War II in Europe was about Germany rising to greatness again and reclaiming "The Fatherland". Japan was about Divine Right to ownership of land as they believed the emperor was God himself. It was mostly political, not religious.

No. As far as the US goes we were originally not in either war. We entered WW1 when the Germans sank the Lusitania and American civilians were killed. We entered WW2 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. If these things did not happen we may not have been in either war.

Neither were christian wars. I don't know what sort of facts people would have to make that kind of statement. I'll let the christians enlighten us though.

I believe as a Christian, that the most important event that happened in the 21st century was the creation of Israel. WW2 was important in that it had the Holocaust (which was bad, read on), which made the UN feel sorry for the jews (for lack of a better word) so they gave them their own country. WW1 was basically a precursor to WW2, nothing really too big.
