Wrong. It's a lot of hassle to do anything through the government. You have visas, and greencards, passports, and naturalization procedures. If you go to Romania, marry her over there, and plan to stay over there--you'd have fewer problems. You are subject to their laws. She'll need a passport. You need a passport. Then you need to go to the Embassy to try and figure these things out. You'll have months of paperwork to file--marriage licenses to ensure that it's legal over here. If you get married in the Caribbean (as I've had numerous friends do), you fill out the paperwork for their country. Then you fill out the paperwork here long before the wedding itself. Some countries require you to be there 3 days before the wedding to fill out paperwork over there.
"No problems". Only in a fairy land. This is called government red tape and you are dealing with 2 different governments.

Actually, it's not that simple. My brother married a Romanian woman, and because of messed up paperwork, she had to go back for 2 years, even though they have a child together! Make sure you do all the proper paperwork. In fact, go visit an immigration lawyer to get the best advice and the proper forms to fill out. The forms are really long, and if you mess them up, you could end up for months and months in an immigration mess. The lawyers are expensive, but consider it an investment in your marriage! I went with them to the US Embassy in Romania, and it was one of the most stressful things I've ever done in my entire life.
She'll have paperwork she'll also need to do in Romania. And it also depends on what kind of US Visa she already has.
Really - it's complicated.

yes when you involve the government at all, let alone the US and government and then another government ontop of that, its almost disasterous. It would be less of a hassle to get her a passport and everything and then marry her as soon as she gets her, before her visa expires, and then theres no waiting also. My friend just married a beautiful romanian woman and they got married over there and they literally could not come back until all of the paperwork was done between both countries!! luckily he was able to take the time off of work, but it was about a 6 month process,....

Not if she has the proper visa. You will need the kind that lets her establish residency in the U.S. It might be better if you got married in the U.S. Go to the INS website. Just cause you are married does not insure her resident status. Its just not that simple.
