is weird to feel weird when smiling?

some of my friends and family have been telling me that i always look miserable all the time and that i need to smile more. i have trying to seem happy more often, but for some reason, smiling feels really weird. it feels like i am making some stupid face or something similar. is this weird? because i believe it is.

Actually I'm the exact same way. I don't look miserable but people told me I always look pissed off, and that I need to smile more. Personally I think why smile when you don't feel like it or need to. But it shouldn't feel weird, it's good to smile and laugh and be happy. You should probably try to figure out why it's feels awkward to you. Most likely by your description it's because your doing it when you don't want to, so it would end up feeling unnatural, and weird.

I go through the same thing sometimes. I think the awkwardness comes from the fact that you know you are faking an emotion. You're smiling because someone wants you to, not because you feel like it, so it feels unnatural and weird.

if you don't feel like smiling then don't do it cause it will appear weird, be true to ones feeling is much more important than anything else especially in the society that we are living today.

had come about a similar article that talk about fake faces and negative feelings, for your reading pleasure as well.

lol, I went though the same thing when I was in high school. I also felt that way about laughing. I would think stuff would be funny but I was just embarrassed about how I laughed and though that I should just keep it short and sweet. Just poke out a smile every now and then and you will start doing it with out even know it.

I hate smiling, and i'm not miserable. If I'm around people that I like and they make me smile, it just happens. But I hate when someone smiles at me and I have to smile back. If feels so fake and lame. So I'm with ya here.

Maybe the only genuine smile is the one you're not aware of doing, and that may not happen a lot for some people, such as myself.

It would be strange if they showed their teeth alot lol if you dont know them...but if they just smirk or smile with closed mouth then that means they are a bit shy and you should go and talk to them

I've gotten that before, but it's just mind over matter.
