I had a toenail permanently removed 5 weeks ago. The root was cauterized with acid.?

The toe does not appear to be infected but is still puffy and easily irritated by anything pressing against it. The only shoe that is semi comfortable is a tennis shoe. Is it normal for the healing to take this long? Any experiences apprectiated. Thanks.

Been there, done that. Twice. The first time they took a piece of my nail out and then messed up the root so it wouldn't come back again. But it did, and I had to get the minor surgery AGAIN. I heard that it was only a 2% chance that that would happen too.

Anyways, if your toe is swelled and it still hurts, it might have gotten infected. Did you soak it 3 times a day in salt water? If not, then this might be why. If it doesn't hurt, and it doesn't leak pus when you squeeze it, then it's most likely fine. If it does leak puss and it's sore, you might have to go back into the hospital and get it checked out.
