    Aftershocks ARE earthquakes.

There is no difference between an "earthquake" and an "aftershock". An aftershock is simply a weaker earthquake that follows the original seismic event.

The epicenter of aftershocks are not always in the same location as the original quake. Aftershocks are smaller quakes that occur as the displaced fault shifts to accommodate the effects of the main shock.

Had the second quake been stronger than the first, IT would have been denoted as the "earthquake", and the original one would have been relabeled a "foreshock".

Aftershock; these will continue for a few months and slowly diminish. It is normal for intense aftershocks to occur after a major earthquake. Note that aftershocks can be nearly as intense as the original quake.

It was an aftershock earthquake of the previous earthquake.

The Rev Soleil is absolutely correct. Sometimes aftershocks can be even stronger than the first quake.

I know this - I live in California now. Free foot massages of various intensities are not exactly rare in some places here. It's why we retrofit everything and put our buildings on bigass rollers. So they slide/roll instead of shake apart.

It was the fine print at the end of the contract with the devil.

Aftershocks are earthquakes, sometimes even more destructive than the initial quake..

Another fresh earthquake. Further from Port-Au-Prince, and deeper in the earth.
