    Keep going.

It is going to hurt the first couple of days, if your breasts are engorged.

If you have a bad latch, it will hurt far worse.

Make sure your latch is good.

Here are some videos to see if your latch is all right. In the event that you can't get ahold of a lactation consultant

But if your latch was bad you need to know that even if you get it right, it might still hurt for a few days until your nipples heal.

    Keep using the lanolin.

Keep it up mama!! you can do it!!!!

The first few days and couple of weeks are not going to be the easiest.

But, get your latch right, and you're good to go.

And as long as baby is getting plenty of poop and pee diapers you can rest assure he's getting enough.

It's normal for babies of this age to want to eat pretty much constantly.

They need to be eating at least 12 times a day at this point.

It's hard, but you can do it

I had my baby a little over a year ago and I had the same problem. He would not latch on correctly and nursing was extremely painful. My nipples were sore and cracked horribly and the lanolin did not seem to help. Talk with a lactation consultant as they can help, also try to examine breastfeeding photos online as that helped for me. No one's advice seemed to help me until I literally took a stuffed animal and held it while staring at a photo on the La Leche Leagues website, then immediately ran downstairs and nursed my baby and lo and behold it helped tremendously!

As far as helping to heal, apply some breastmilk to your nipples after nursing and before applying the lanolin, it seems to help as it has natural healing qualities to it. Also, try purchasing some breast shells, try Medela SoftShells, as it will keep clothes away from sore nipples and help them to heal much faster. Good luck! It took me about a month to get the hang of it. My son is now 13 months old and I am still breastfeeding, so know that it gets easier.

Continue to breast feed first of all. The more you practice and the more often you do it, the easier it will get.

Second, considering contacting the lactation specialist at the hospital you delivered at. They can show you some tips and tricks on how to get baby to latch better (that's probably why your nipples are hurting) and how to get him/her to detach without any pain to you.

Third, try taking some warm showers and lightly massaging your breasts. That will help the milk let down and ease any soreness you're having.

Just remember that these first few weeks are gonna be a little tricky until you get into a routine. Hang in there and stay committed and its very likely you'll successfully breastfeed for as long as you and baby choose to. Good luck!

you might want to let some of the milk out by using warm cloths or a warm shower (your nipples/breast may be too full for the baby to get a proper latch) then when you feed the baby ensure that the latch is proper (most if not all the aereola should be in baby's mouth) you can try different positions so that all areas of the breast are drained. See a lactation consultant asap

hello. My baby girl is 5 weeks old and i had the same problem with being so sore. I wanted to give up after a week but i knew each day she breastfed she was greatly benefitting. I contacted a lactation consultant and she came to my house and was lots of help so i recommend you do the same. It's still sore but not as bad. It goes by fast just keep at it and it will improve.

Your nipples are sore because the baby is not latching correctly more then likely. There is some tenderness to be expected in the begining but it usually gets better. Here are some links for you to take a look at http://www.drjacknewman.com/video-clips.asp http://www.kellymom.com/bf/start/index.html

Your breast hurt because they are engorged.

Keep it up, it gets much much easier.
