what are the signs of a broken front leg in a cat?
hi spike he is sort of a ferel cat that lives me with, he comes in every day but will only stay in the house and have fuss when its really cold, He has an appointment at 2.45 with the vet. he came in this morning covered in a lot of mud, he is limping, well more hopping he wont put any weight on it, when he was lying down he wouldnt tuck that leg under his body he kept it straight, does this sound like it could be a break, or a sprain, he has an appointment with his vet very soon, there is no blood or anything obvious, it does look a little swollen just thought i would ask while im waiting. thanks
thanks everyone for your reassurance, the vet thinks hes either been fighting and has a bite, or more likey he has got stuck somewhere and has sprained his shoulder trying to get free, hes on metacam for 5 days and had antibiotic jab, so hes in now for a while he wont be happy about but tuff thanks again

The signs you describe are very similar to symptoms that occur with a fracture.(Not weight bearing on that leg, not tucked under when lying down, swelling, etc.)
As you said you have got already an appointment booked at your vet, which is the best to do.
Cats feel pain as much as any other creature, but they are very good at disguising it. Owners are often not aware that their cat is in pain and needs appropriate treatment.
Giving aspirin to a cat is a big No-No. The feline metabolism expels this chemical only very slowly and using estimated doses can lead to serious side effects.
Hope this helps and keep us updated!

My cat lived to be 2 a protracted time old, so i do no longer evaluate twelve to be too old for surgical treatment. At this factor, because of the fact which you may assure that he will stay maximum cancers-unfastened as quickly as his leg is got rid of i think of it would be stupid to place him down. he will probable make an effort to evolve to the lack of his leg, yet cats are very imaginitive. the only situation i might complication approximately is his length- if he's in basic terms a huge cat, that advantageous yet while he's a fats cat then he could have some added issues.

A few months ago, my cat tore the tendon in her back leg. She tried to conceal the pain she was in however, she was limping badly and could not sit/lay down correctly.
Your cat has obviously damaged his leg is some respect. By observation only, you can't really know the extent of his condition. Get him to the Vet ASAP and try to limit his movement (ex. keep the food and the litter box close together, keep him in one room, avoid keeping him near furniture he can jump on..)
You can try giving him 1 tablet of baby aspirin to help with the pain. Make sure he eats with it and do not give him more than 1 a day. It's not recommended as a long term medication.Your Vet will prescribe pain medication.

My cat was like that too for nearly 2 weeks. She got injured when she slipped on the bricks when she jumped off from a puddle of water. It looked really bad and she couldn't even move for one or two days. But she recovered so I guessed it was just a sprain. So yours probably could be the same too so don't worry too much about it. Cats are tougher than us in these stuffs.

yes this could very well be a break or a bad injury he could be in a lot af pain so the sooner he see a vet the better, the only way of telling if its broken is by an x ray he sounds like he been in a bit of trouble hope he is ok good luck

If the cat is not his normal self, or limps, or just sits there. Might be a sprain from your description.
