You are an anime investor with 40 million USD, what do you do?

So assume that you have $40,000,000 to spend on producing and making anime. How would you spend it? Adapt a manga / novel / video game into an anime? Give an old anime a new sequel? Remake an anime with a higher budget? You can do pretty much anything. You can even tell me what studios and producers you want working on them.

To make it uniform, use this pricing scheme:

-HQ Movie (Princess Mononoke, 5 CM per Second): 20,000,000

-Movie (movies from TV series- eg Naruto): 10,000,000

-HQ OVA (Hellsing Ultimate, FLCL, Gunbuster): 5,000,000

-OVA (Golden Boy, Record of Lodoss War): 1,000,000

-HQ Episode (Ghost in the Shell, Gurren Lagann, Cowboy Bebop): 200,000

-Episode (Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha): 100,000

-ONA / Short (Chii's Sweet Home, Hetalia): 50,000

So a short season (10 episodes) would cost 2,000,000 if made HQ; 1,000,000 if made normally; and 500,000 if made as a short.

A regular season (25 episodes) would cost 5,000,000 if made HQ; 2,500,000 if made normally; and say 1,500,000 (rounded a bit) if made as a short.

So using these costs, and a budget of 40 million, what would you make?

Seriously wrote over half my answer and then my internet cut out. WTF. T____T < angry. I swear if it some kid in my uni halls/dorms he's getting some major *** murder from me -_____-

It's probably going to be briefer and not even half as good. *rage rage* but oh well once again here I go. (copying this after every paragraph now T__T)

    I started off before with...

    ___

HQ Movie:: I'm not sure how it will go (yeah that sounded vague - ahem) buuut it will be Satoshi Kon combined with Studio 4°C. They both perceptually cover the abstract/experimental art combined with psychological/mystery, subtle clever humour and often trippy styles. I think the combination could make for one of the most interesting films ever created. Provided the two producers don't end up at eachother's throats (too many cooks spoil the broth idea) but hopefully it'll be a masterpiece if they take the best out of eachothers ideas.

With the acquired fame of Satoshi Kon and the cult following of Studio 4°C it could make a highly interesting audience.

    20,000,000

    ____

25 Episode Non HQ series:: Land of the Blindfolded the manga will be adapted into an anime. Yeah it's girly shoujo but it's one of the few girly ones that is exceptionally good. I'm not a big fan of mahou shoujo but it really plays it down in the manga and I think that could draw mahou shoujo fans into the anime who will then stick because the storyline is so good (even though the magic is minimal) and yes that made me sound like a sneaky underhanded anime producer but most business people are from time to time ;D. Besides that people will keep watching it's a manga that doesn't play to much on the romance and more on the character interactions while still having suggested coupling which is really nice to read and will be interesting to watch. I have to choose the seiyuu already Mamiko Noto (she does Kotomi Ichinose/Kuronuma Sawako and others) her very delicate voice could do Kanade perfectly. As for producers at this stage I'm unsure (it's probably a bad thing I can only think of big names for HQ anime :/ so I'll leave that blank).

    2,500,000

    ____

25 Episode HQ series:: 100% MIRAI NIKKI. Seriously this manga would be absolute CLASS as an anime. It has everything that appeals to a modern audience, yandere horror girls, comedy, violence, romance, drama, mystery and psychological. It would be an anime that would appeal to both male and female and all ends of the spectrum, it's also a "game" (and yes I just damn well lost it while writing that) based manga, this will come across better in the anime as a suspense point. Ending an episode on a cliffhanger is the best way to keep the viewer focused. I think it would be a huge hit and well worth taking the risk of adding extra funding and time into it's production.

As for the studios, I would completely try and get SHAFT (Bakemonogatari/Ef A Tale of Memories/Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei etc). They do a wonderful job of creating that suspense feel through experimental artwork and creativity without making it too inaccessible for the average anime fan; they also seem to have a reoccuring theme of coming across victim male anime leads I've noticed XD.

5,000,000 (and with the millions I make from all these maybe Mirai Nikki gets a season 2 ;D)

    ____

Movie from a TV Series:: I damn well hope PIZZA HUT I'm not suppose to have PIZZA HUT HQ'd this but they are making their mint PIZZA HUT advertising PIZZA HUT in the background of every other scene. (and no it's not Code Geass) I want a movie for Darker than Black. DTB II ended with so much potential, I think another series might be overkill though. I think an excellent movie should round it off quite nicely with a definate clear end. More Hei I say! The suspense aspect and the former first series arc style should making it possibility for the producers (yes I will keep them the same since they have a done a superb job anyway). I do have some speculations of my own that there may be a DTBIII (but who knows?)

    10,000,000

    ____

Now I have 2,500,000 left to play around with which is just enough for a low budget regular season.... Sooo... What to choose last? So tempting to sit on leftover though XD

    ____

25 Episode Non HQ series:: Skip Beat! sequal. Seriously it was such a good anime, and the end collapses into the abyss. The anime art and style is already low budget so it'll just stay the same. But anyone who watched Skip Beat! knows the dissatisfying ending. The manga has progressed quite far now there is room for a season 2 T___T. Again like with the DTB movie all the producers and seiyuus will stay the same. On one side it could be doable in twelve episode but I feel like I should be using up this cash (and I was thinking a series of short parody ONA's but my creative braincells seem to be asleep at the moment).

Hope this helps :D (sorry it's a bit long winded)

A 100% faithful adaption of Baccano's current novels all the way up to 20, running about ~8 tv length episodes per book (but as extended length HQ OVAs of about 1 1/2 hours each episode with each book released as a separate DVD set for easy sorting). And adapted in order of book release.

Darn, so we can't control a licensing studio, like FUNImation?

Well, I'll need to keep track of math, so here we go:

    1) Tonari no 801-chan, a Japanese webcomic about a fujoshi and her boyfriend, was announced a while ago. However, due to untold reasons, the anime was cancelled. The first thing I would do is adapt this webcomic into an ONA, like Hetalia, because I feel it would work better that way.

    $40,000,000-$1,500,000= $38,500,000

    2) Loveless gets a remake anime. The original anime ended without diving into any significant plot developments in the manga. Now that the manga's farther along, I would adapt it into an entirely new, 25 episode series.

    $38,500,000-$5,000,000= $35,500,000

    3) The manga +Anima never got an anime version, which is a shame. In my imaginary world, I would make a full, twenty-five episode long series out of it.

    $33,500,000-$5,000,000= $28,500,000

4)Yotsuba&! gets an anime. This is something I've wanted for a very, very long time, after all. I feel the series would work best as a short season, though.

    $28,500,000-$2,000,000 (Yotsuba deserves HQ)= $26,500,000

    5) This sure takes awhile to run out of money. Next up, a Vocaloid anime series, 25 episodes and in HQ.

    $26,500,000-$5,000,000= $21,500,000

    6) Next, a REMAKE of the movie Howl's Moving Castle, that's true to the book and captures the book's charm. In HQ, of course.

    $21,500,000-$20,000,000= $1,500,000

    7) A short for the oneshot manga Once Upon a Glashma.

    $1,500,000-$500,000= $1,000,000

    8) Lastly, a short, ten episode series for the manga Otomen, which totally deserves one.

    $1,000,000-$1,000,000= $0

And there's my investment money, all gone away.

Okay, short answer: I would completely remake xxxHOLiC and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. Both anime completely sucked and more than half of them are filler (not to mention HOLiC's animation is crap. Yuuko looks *awful*. Although I suppose I should be understanding... they did a better job than *I* could do with her, and she is a pretty intricate character...)

Edit: So, I promise it didn't take me this long to figure this out.

    xD

I had to go eat, and then I felt the need to get some homework out of the way before getting back online.

    >.<

And so after realizing I have a far too grand a scheme in mind (xD) I will just settle for remaking an awesome Tsubasa since HOLiC is still going strong.

Anyway, I think I'd end up basically using the same format, I'd just actually cover the manga towards the end, instead of making up my own story. I think *maybe* one more full season would be necessary, or at least another OVA... I'll go with three full seasons just to be safe though.

    lol

Three HQ Regular Seasons - 15 mil.

Two HQ OVAs - 10 mil.

    And a regular movie - 10 mil.

And then I'd like to have a spin-off ONA of Horitsuba Gakuen (another alternate universe crossover of HOLiC and Tsubasa where all the characters go to high school together. x3) Two seasons so 1 mil even.

Total cost comes to 36 mil, with just enough left over to do *nothing*. I guess I could throw a low quality OVA or two in there just to use up the last of it.

    lol

And if I get to choose which animation studio, its definitely gotta be 4C, their work is always so awesome and vibrant, I'm sure they'd do a good job with it.

    x3

Edit2: I thought of something better to do with my left overs.

My remaining 4 mil would go into making 2-3 low quality OVAs of WISH. (I doubt it really needs more than one.. but I have imaginary money to waste. lol)

And possibly change the studio to Madhouse, they seem to fit CLAMP's style a little more after I remembered how awesome Kobato looks.

    x3

Well, I'd better start looking for people who can help me with these projects. I can't do it alone anyhow.

I look for people that have some experience with animation, sales, investment, and production. A small team of producers and animators would be great. Then, to incorporate music, I'll have to go and talk to a few singers and music conductors who would be interested.

I'll use the system you provided.

    HQ Movie ($5,000,000)

-I would work with a director to make a short storyline. The length of the movie would be around 140-180 mins so it wouldn't be overwhelming for viewers. Also, I'd like about 2 or 3 producers working together and have a good idea of the atmosphere of a storyline for a HQ movie. As for a movie I would be requesting to make, Baccano! would be a good one, even though the novels are not finished. For that, I would talk it over to the original creator for a general idea, and how he wants the movie made since it's his work that I'm producing the movie into. Voice cast in original Japanese and English are up to the directors and creator.

    HQ Episode Series (20,000,000)

-Same as above, but I would like a series that's around 26-50 episodes. Writing a storyline with a director is something I would start off with. With producers, I look for the ones that have an experience and enjoy the line of work and teamwork. A remake of a series wouldn't go so well as well as making a series based on an ongoing one. I would like to make an animated series of a self-made storyline that builds up in a timeline of 26-50 episodes. Since I would like to join, I'd like to have genres of psychological action with a mix of horror, and the setting would be in a few cities or countries. I like to keep the realism with some mix of supernatural themes, something like Darker than Black and Baccano mixed with some modern swordfighting, like the atmosphere of Black Lagoon. The rating would be older teen to adult.

The rest of the money (15,000,000)

-The rest of the cash is to support both productions as well as companies, directors, and Voice cast that are in the makings of the series and movie that I posted. Even though the price is set, the people would be asking for more, so I keep the rest safe for investing. I'm not interested in something that big and wide of a plan, but something small instead.

I'd make a Side story for sasuke then I'd make more money from all the FANATiCS. It would be a 13 episode series Called The life A Lonely Sasuke.(From Naruto) Studio uhh let me see how about Gainax. It would cost 2,600,000.

(Story is about how sasuke from Naruto is a lonely boy after having his clan wiped out by Itachi. There we learn about his childhood with a little cameo from chibi Naruto) Then using that to my advantage all the FaNatics will buy the Series. If you are the first 100 to preorder the dvd release when it becomes popular you get a Sakura pantsu =D its for FANBOYS.

Then I'd use the remaining money to make MxO into an anime thats 25 episodes. Studio BONES hmm someone do the math for me. Adapted from the manga. Cost 5,000,000

Ok after that i'll make a movie called Treize khushrenada, Before he became Aizen the Movie. Studio would be Toei Animation. (Story is About Treize Before and after Wufei Kills him. Then when he dies he becomes Aizen and again starts a massive war.) 20,000,000

So I'm guessing i'll have more than 10 million dollars left with the money left i'll make me Gundam WING Zero Custom as publicity for all my hard work.

BTW um the producer idk any so i'll just pick Hayao Miyazaki if he counts

short answer: Instead of investing on the anime/movie market, i would buy the rights and licenses of a popular anime/manga \and make a high budget-quality video game out the franchise. this way i would appeal to both markets; the anime/manga fans and the videogame/anime fanatics. now the question is what anime/manga series would draw enough attention? maybe an RTS/fighitng game based on evangelion, or a huge open world/MMO about ninjas vs samurais (samurai X vs naruto maybe?), or even a sports game based on captain tsubasa or what not. possibilities are almost endless.

I would give it all to the poor. Of course, no one would be rich from it. I would distribute it equally in a way that it would fullfill the needs of many. This is how money should be used. Wealth does nothing but land people in Hell. Remember when Jesus said to invite the needy and misfortunate to dinner, and not brothers, sisters, and people you know? This is what He expects from us. We should not be partial. We should treat all people like brothers and sisters of God. We should not do favors for our own while leaving everyone else out. That's hypocritical and typical of many people. Never give money to organizations. The needy get cheated. If you want to help others, go on foot and do it by your own hands. Never make a person rich. This is an act of landing someone in Hell and God will look down on you for it. He expects us to fullfill the needs of others. We should not corrupt them. Money is dirty. And any amount above necessity breeds the temptation of power and desire and greed. No one is above temptation. And it is sinful. And if we lead others to Sin, we will meet our doom someday. Be wise. Oh..and one more thing...when you help someone..try to do it secretly or privately and never tell others what you did. Else you are a hypocrite.

I'd try to get Desert Punk finished, just because the ending wasn't satisfying with the characters. There was no sympathy with them.

Maybe get it remade, this time with characters that I can give sympathy to.
