how to talk to my mom about a controversial problem?

okay. so i wouldn't call my mom an alcoholic, but she usually has between 1-2 glasses of wine a day. that's not a big deal (right?). except that shes on a certain type of medicine (its not a temporary medicine, shes been taking it for about two years now, don't really know what it is) that when she drinks more than half a glass I've noticed that she becomes very irritable, short tempered, and moody.

i once tried to bring this up with her and she got very defensive. because "im so over reacting, shes only had a glass of wine at lunch, one when she got home and a shot of tequila".so im a little afraid to bring it up again.

its not like shes unbearable or anything, but for some reason, her glass(es) of wine a day is really starting to bother me.

should i just let it go? am i really overreacting here? or should i do something about it? any ideas how?

most medications advise not take with alcohol so perhaps this is the result of a bad drug interaction :: alcohol is a drug =\

    good luck!

Speak with a guidance counselor at school about this. She's not an alcoholic, but obviously something isn't right when she drinks.

Your counselor may be able to help you approach your mother in a non-confrontational accusatory way. She may even ask your mom to come in for a session with the 3 of you.

Yes, you are overreacting. One to two glasses of wine per day for an adult woman have been proven to be very beneficial in preventing heart disease and increasing life span. Without knowing the exact medicine, it's impossible to say if there could be a reaction going on. If there is, it would most likely be better to switch the medicine than to stop 1-2 glasses of wine per day.

its actually healthy to have a glass of wine once a day.

dont make it a big deal. when she starts getting sh!t faced

drunk everyday, then its an issue.

  • Talk to your dad about it and have him help you out. There's no guarantees, but since it's your mom it's really the only thing you can do since you've already confronted her yourself.

try and talk to her. its starting of scholism. its sad but she does not recognize it. its a crutch and she does not need it. tell her but tal with an air of concern not fighting type of concern.
