I do not do them myself as I am afraid of hurting them but I do have a vet tech that comes to my house to do it about every 2 months. Costs a lot for the house call but it is well worth it:)
BTW-not the PAWS but the CLAWS

I realize you mean claws. The answer is yes and no. Several of my cats have nearly transparent claws and white paws. And they seem to know when I have neither the trimmer or decent light available to try the trim job. So they cooperate and let me express their claws when they know I can't trim them.
Several other of my cats get a regular trimming, since they love to lie on me, and then knead me. That can become painful. And they are more cooperative in letting me trim their claws.
But my oldest cat is over 14 years old, and has never had a trimming. For an older cat, it becomes important to check to make sure the claw tip is not curling back on itself. If it does, then a trimming is important. That happens in an older cat when they get lazy about using scratching posts and pads.

Yes, I do indeed trim to the claws. However, that doesn't seem to work since he still manages to scratch things, so now I use something called soft paws. It's little silicone caps you put over the nail (literally with glue). They shed off over time, but the tips are rounded so when he scratches he can't actually dig into things. It's a lot easier than trimming his nails each week. As the nails grow, they just grow into the tip of the soft paw and then every few weeks the caps pop off and I just re-trim the nail and put on a new cap.
I'm a noob and can't put them on myself. You're supposed to be able to put them on at home, but my cat is a squirmey devil so I have it done at the groomer instead.

I trim the claws on our cats when they get too long. I use fingernail clippers, and just take the point off. But they usually don't need it. Cats tend to shed claws when they get longer, I think, and they wear down when the animal is walking on rough surfaces or climbing a lot.

This is a strange question.
Do you mean my cat's CLAWS?
If so, yes, I trim them with nail clippers whenever they get long.
I don't know why this doesn't occur to people who have their cat's fingers chopped off (what they like to call "declawing").
But no, I don't cut the PAWS, just the nails, the same as I do with my own fingernails and toenails.

yeah I trim my cat's claws... get them used to it at a young age and you can trim their claws in like a minute.

Cut the paw :O
No but I cut the nails once every 2 weeks. Just make sure you know how to cut them so you don't hurt your cat.

Dissolve a spoonful of salt in warm water and try to dip his paw in it for as long as he'll let you. There are few finder disinfectants for wounds, and out vet always used to recommend this.

It's just one of those things if your cat scratches you I'm afraid.
They need claws for tree climbing etc..
