Had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks then couldn't detect a heartbeat with doppler at 9 weeks 6 days...?
Is this normal?
When I had my ultrasound, I saw and heard the heartbeat (173). They said everything looked great. There was a ton of movement. But when I went today they couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler. I'm trying to stay positive, it's just kind of scary.
Thank you so much for the positive responses!! And I just want to add, that I am not experiencing any miscarriage symptoms. No bleeding or even spotting, not abnormal cramping or anything either. I know it's in God's hands either way, it's just scary being as this is my 1st baby and I want the best for it and myself.

It is really hard to find a baby's heartbeat at 9 almost 10 weeks by doppler. My doctor did an ultrasound to see the heartbeat and hear it he didn't even try the doppler that early on. Just relax and don't stress this is normal and you should be able to hear it at your next appointment. Good Luck

Look at the copyright date on the book, the original date (oldest date). That will give you a good idea how much medicine has changed since it was written. Just go by the due date and how far along the doctor's say. That IS a good book but some of it's technical info is outdated. That book was available when I was pregnant with my son who is 11 years old now. When I first got pregnant intravaginal ultrasounds were not available. At least not in my area.

I was told by my Doctor that sometimes it's hard to detect a heartbeat at 9 weeks by doppler, especially if your on the heavier side or if your baby has his/her back to the doppler. The best thing to do is to see if they would give you another ultrasound to ease your mind. I hope that all is well.

the ultra sound probably picked it up much easier cause it can be seen. with the doppler they have to search for it and it also picks up the other noises in your body like digestion and that probably drowns out the heartbeat and the baby is still really tiny. hang in there and good luck

It's very normal to not hear the heartbeat at 9 weeks I can't believe they even tried to find it that early. My doctor tried to find it at 11 weeks and couldn't so they did an ultrasound to reassure me and it was there.

I couldn't get the heart beat on the doppler until I was farther along too. I was 14 weeks at my second appt. and that's the first they heard it on the doppler. The u/s was the only thing that worked at my first appt. which was 9 weeks.

I wouldn't worry too much. Like everyone else has said, it is still early and the heartbeat can be hard to find. Good luck sweetheart and try not to worry :)

it is usual as the baby is very very tiny in ur stomach and so he or she is not easy to find thats why my midwife wouldnt even consider listening to heartbeat until i was 24 weeks as it was easy to find by then
