Where to get started on planning a wedding?

We're planning on getting married towards the end of the year, October/November. I don't know where to get started on the planning.

We only want a very small wedding, 30-40 people tops, and it's going to be pretty casual, so I thought there wouldn't be a lot to plan, but it's getting more confusing by the day, lol.

What are all the things I need to think about and in what order should I organise them?

First you need to come up with a budget. How much can the two of you afford to spend?

Then start looking at a location to have the ceremony/reception.

Sit down with your fiance and talk about what aspects are most important to you.

    Pick your wedding colors.

    Put together the guest list.

Decide on what types of food you want to serve.

Search for DJ, Photographer, JP or officiant, caterer.

    Pick your bridal party.

Check out theknot.com, weddingwire.com, or marthastewratweddings.com for a list of everything that you will need to do and about when you should have it done.

    Best of luck and Congrats!

Get a checklist which tells you what to do each month or so before your wedding. This way, you will know which things to prioritize first, although you can adjust it to your circumstances. It should be available in most wedding planning websites.

The first thing to do is to set a specific date and budget. Then, book ceremony and reception venues, because all the rest would depend on the surety of these. Once you have booked them, you can easily book all other vendors and inform your guests about your event.

Well, the first thing would be to book a venue. If you pick a date first and then can't find an available venue, it's just a confusing mess. So, you have a general idea of when (Oct./Nov.), so pick a venue before you tell people a date ;)

You can find tons of wedding planning books at used bookstores or online... My friend bought me a $30 book for 75 cents on Amazon.com. The book had TONS of great resources...

    -Planning schedules

    -Etiquette

    -Decorating ideas

    And tons of other goodies.

And remember, if you book an outdoor venue, ALWAYS have a backup (tents or an indoor venue).

First, pick a date and a budget.

Then pick a place, and an officiant. We got married at a local hotel. There where 39 guests at the wedding.

From there you need to think of how fancy or not this will be. I wore and off white ladies knee lengthh suit and he a black business suit.

Just think about what you want to have. THere are zillions of wedding sites on the web.
