Didn't save any links, since this was so massively covered by all the news media, I didn't figure I would need it.
I remember reading one AP article though, that made me stop and catch my breath.
Besides granting amnesty to the estimated 30,000 illegal Haitians in country AND providing a "special exception" by the State Department to process Visa applications, there was some incredible number of "orphans", some 100,000 that would be relocated to the U.S..
There were then stories of parents, telling their children to claim both parents were killed and they were orphans, just to get into the States.
This makes me very nervous, since our economy is still "very weak", still borderline that could collapse and yet we offer free housing, medical, education and job assistance ?
Everyone feels sympathy and compassion and were among many nations offering to rebuild Haiti at some enormous sum, BUT come on.............................................more burdens for the taxpayer ?

The earthquake in Haiti was a 7.0 in magnitude & the damage is more devastating in Haiti due to its building style & the epicenter location. Many lives are gone & families are destroyed in this disaster. Thousands of people lost their home instantly & lose their relatives or their own life. Its really a tragic situation in Haiti.

According to this article, it could be 'twice that or higher': http://www.france24.com/en/20100120-haiti-earthqua...
It seems a little odd. To create a new orphan, a child's parents need to be killed (so, one or two people) while the child must survive. But you would expect many children to have been killed in the earthquake as well as adults. Intuitively it seems that one orphan dying should be more likely than two parents dying and their child surviving.
