Are medical expenses deductible only if you itemize deductions?

The total medical costs meets the percentage criteria of the IRS, but when added to my other deductions, doesn't qualify to itemize on my tax return. My standard deduction applies. Question: if I take the standard deduction, then I will not get to also count my medical costs, right?

Medical deduction is itemized deduction, which is reported on schedule A (Form 1040). You will take deduction only if your itemized deductions are more than your standard deduction..You can deduct the expenses that are more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (Form 1040, line 38).
