I've been wondering lately...?
Why does the word "atheism" quickly mean people who are evolution, abiogensis, big bang, and "non spiritual"?
Doesn't the word atheism mean "no god" ?
Why do people disregard that people can be atheists but have spiritual beliefs?
Be blessed... some theists accept evolution and yet still believe in a God or Gods.
Terribly sorry for the typo of the question.
As for Kiki... how silly to think that all atheists hold no "Spirtual beliefs"...

Well, if you believe in evolution and the big bang, you can't believe in the creator of all. God is the creator of man, NOT evolution.

The word atheism is often misunderstood, even by many (not all) people who claim to be atheists. You are correct in your literal interpretation of the word, it comes from the Greek and means "no theos" or no God. It is the philosophical view that God does not exist.
Many people who claim to be atheists are really agnostics which means they have no knowledge of or belief in God.

Atheists who do not wonder or have any idea about the world's existence and have no concern or wonder about where they are going after they die (or if they just return to the ground).
Brain dead atheists! :-) (Just kidding)
People associate atheism with evolution, the big bang, and such because it's human nature to wonder about where we came from and where we are going. I haven't heard anyone say that we've just always existed and secular science seems to prove that evolution was quite possible, therefore, it's common to assume atheists believe in such things.

It's the same way with people who are agnostic. So many people misunderstand what it means. I'm not religious (way too logical and know the bible was wrote by FLAWED MAN) but I am spiritual.
There is a reason that people can talk to "God" but when he talks back to you and tells you to do something you're locked up in the loony bin.

If they're anything like me, it's a shorthand that means to include(accurately) the beliefs of the vast majority of atheists. One could say MOST atheists are non-spiritual, evolutionists, etc...but why give them that kind of respect?

Quite right - they do have spiritual beliefs - one of them is the knowledge that God exists:
Romans 1:20; 'For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.'

"Well, if you believe in evolution and the big bang, you can't believe in the creator of all. God is the creator of man, NOT evolution."
This is not true. A person could believe that God caused the "Big Bang", and that evolution is part of his plan for "Intelligent Design".

I'm a Christian who believes in God and evolution with the same amount of conviction. Am I supposed to go jump in a lake?

"Doesn't the word atheism mean "no god" ? "
Yes. You can mostly thank the religious for that association, they think it demonizes us. I think they also have a hard time understanding that we don't have a dogma, they just really WANT us to be a religion that badly.

my boyfriend says hes an atheist but he believes there is "something" else out here. They do it because they dont look more in to things and believe what other people hear and pass on.
