How many vowels and consonants does American English have?
I am asking for the number of vowels and consonants that American English possess not the number of letters used to write all the sounds.
5 AnswersLanguages8 years agoA phrase translation (japanese)?
I'm having trouble of a little word I found in the net:
バレタカ (baretaka)
I have no idea what the word is so I hope somebody else does.
I didn't find the word in any dictionary and google translate isn't translating it. A google search revealed that it is an actual word.
Thanks
2 AnswersLanguages9 years agoQuick Japanese Translation check, please?
I got this sentence off somewhere to practice translating Japanese to English:
oi! sorosoro ranninga ikuzo!
I translated it to: I'll be running soon or I'm going to run in a while.
Also what does oi! mean in the beginning? Is it, Hey! I'm going running in a while.
3 AnswersLanguages9 years agoWould it be a good move? Windows to Linux?
I belong to a non-profit, non-goverment organization that is currently struggling with a the budget (we are an animal shelter). We have one pc that runs Windows XP (which I think has never been updated). I am thinking of maybe switching to a Linux OS instead to benefit from the opensource repository of linux.
The pc is quite old and slow for XP. Also, we do not have internet connection in the office (budget issues)
6 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoWould you ever want to wake up from a very good dream?
What if you had a very very good dream and you are conscious enough in the dreamworld to have the ability to choose to stay or to wake up.
Would you stay or wake up? You can only choose one.

3 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoIf a burglar gets severely injured by a domesticated animal?
A hypothetical question:
A burglar enters a private property (obviously.. illegally) and a dog, trying to defend the property of its master, attacked the burglary, injuring him severely. There is no "beware of the dog" sign outside to warn people about the dog but this is also the first time the dog attacked someone.
What would be your OPINION regarding what the authorities should do?
Should the owner of the dog be responsible for the injuries a burglar sustained?
Is the dog at fault?
10 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoI wonder if the plot is interesting? - story assignment?
We were asked to make a story, here's a short description of mine:
After more than 12 years of cutting all forms of contacts from home, a man in his late twenties receives a letter from his sister, urging him to come home.
The story starts in a bus stop and everything else is told using flashback sequences. During the trip, he remembers (not in order) his life and how he has wasted most of it. Also during the trip, he practices how to say sorry to his father for leaving.
Some flashback sequences:
His interview at his current job with his overly aggressive feminist boss.
Him selling his car and watch to pay the bills - he claims to his friend that he took the bus because it would be cheaper.
His father who is obsessed with their bakery shop that WAS going out of business (now a big franchise)
Him eloping to the city with his pregnant girlfriend
What do you think? I want to make a dark comedy of some sort.
Note: A recurring theme would be the "no u-turn" signs on the streets. By the way, he arrives only to see his father already dead at the end.
3 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoI've been wondering lately...?
Why does the word "atheism" quickly mean people who are evolution, abiogensis, big bang, and "non spiritual"?
Doesn't the word atheism mean "no god" ?
Why do people disregard that people can be atheists but have spiritual beliefs?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat do you understand from this dialogue?
A man and a butterfly is in a cemetery (I know butterflies can't talk but it is essential to the scene)
Butterfly: How is the life of a man?
Man: Complicated, chaotic, unpredictable
Man: How is the life of a butterfly?
Butterfly: I do not know for I have never been anything else but a butterfly.

7 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhich type of life would you want?
Which would you choose?
A Simple life: You are "free" and have little cares in the world. You don't worry too much about money - so long that you are alive, you are happy.
A roller coaster one - you experience death of a loved one, intense fear, complicated affection, worry about money, worry about the bills - working everyday to survive, fullfilling your "desires" and needs.
Would you choose the simpler version of life or the more complicated one?
5 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agohow come when I ask the question: Is this a dream?
Most people, if not all, would answer, by pinching me or hitting me. They then say, you can feel pain can't you?
Or they would answer many things related to pain or suffering -->> I woke up this morning and tripped. It hurt like hell, so I am sure it is not a dream.
Is the measure of reality pain and suffering?
