Cats: warmth or something more?

Right now it is winter here and below freezing, last fall my niece rescued five stray cats. One Momma and four teen kittens. We have brought the Momma inside because kept attacking the kits and now we bought a dog house and filled it with warm blankets and the fully grown kits stay there. But my brother-in-law decided to let Momma (her name) outside when she was in heat and a male cat started hanging out here. He is full black and has a couple scars so we named him Midnight, Momma is now inside and very close to the dew date and Midnight is back, i thought it was just because of the warmth in the dog house but today i went out there and another large male cat was out there with them and now im taking care of the four kits the pregnant Momma adn the two fighting toms. My question is, that do you think they are here for the warmth something more? and How old is a cat when she goes into her first heat cycle?

Update:

I just went back outside and observed Midnight folowing the oldest female, and i know that is not good. If two toms want her would they fight for her until she was out of her cycle? and shouldent her two brothers be chasing them off? the two toms are Midnight and a grey cat (very crazy/funny/mean) is new and what should i do cuase i already have two ferrets, three cats (including Momma) four teen cats, two dogs, and four rats.

If any of the kittens are females, the two toms could be wanting something more (if you know what I mean). It could also be about the heat. Cats do like to stay cozy.

A female cat reaches sexual maturity at 5-10 months.

You should probably get Momma kitty and her babies spayed/neutered asap or you will be overrun with baby kitties very soon.

The babies are probably getting close to going into heat. I would suggest calling around to different rescue agencies in your area and see if there is a cheap or free spay/neuter program in your area. At this rate, you could have 50 cats in a year--and I'm not exaggerating. Good luck, and bless you for taking them in and making the effort!
