Amd CPU vs Intel i7 CPU?

First off I don't have alot of money to spend, so which would I get more out of. The bottom of the line i7 Intel cpu or the AMD Phenom™II X4 965 Black Edition Quad-Core CPU.

AMD processors offer the best bang/buck, especially when you factor in the higher cost of an LGA 1156 motherboard as well.

Of course the big question is... what are you building the computer for? For video editing or 3D design work I'd lean towards the Core i7 or Core i5 (most cost effective) because the Intel chips simply perform so much better at those tasks.

For gaming on a tight budget, I'd go AMD. Since your GPU is the most important component in any gaming computer, whichever CPU choice leaves enough money to make a serious move up the graphics card chain is usually best- a $75 difference in graphics card models is an entire tier of performance.

For games, the combination of a Core i7 860 and Radeon 5770 gets utterly smoked by the combination of a Core i5 750 (or Phenom II X4 965) and Radeon 5850.

A classic question, with tons of answers for both sides. I think I have a relatively unbiased opinion, because I've always been a hardcore AMD fan. However, I'm running on an i7 right now.

In a SiSoftware Sandra test of actual POWER between the processors, an i7 920 (the LOWEST model) @ 2.66 ghz BEATS the AMD Phenom™II X4 965 Black Edition @ 3.4ghz. Do you see something strange there? Also, the 2.66 runs cooler. As another bonus, it takes triple channel ddr3 RAM.

I have an i7 920 running at 3.8 stable. It'll go to 4.2ghz with a voltage of only 1.3. It's running on stock air cooling. I even accidentally touched the bottom of the heatsink and rubbed some of the thermal paste off. Idles around 36C and loads around 78C. Not sure on the temps for the AMD.

64GFLOPS to 51GFLOPS in a comparison of the top AMD and the bottom i7. Guess which had the 64? The i7. My (OC'd) i7 920 runs at 117GFLOPS. No extra/water cool. And it's not even maxed.

Bang for the buck? Actually, it's Intel.

If you don't have a lot of money then I would go with AMD but if you are willing to overclock then I would get the bottom of the line i7 because it is almost the same thing as the top of the line i7 if you're thinking about getting the i7 920 and some 920's can overclock further than a 975 can which is the top of the line. If you don't want to overclock then I would definitely go with AMD because they have more bang for buck but Intel has more bang in the end.

The i7 is indeed faster. Yet for the money it's smarter to get the AMD and a nice video card.

I recommend you go with the Intel Core i7 CPU since it's the best in the world.

It should easily outperform ANY AMD CPU.

Get the AMD one its better because its quad core e.t.c all though I can't really judge without knowing there speeds E.G 3ghz. Also the AMD one is phenom which is slightly better than normal AMD.

When buying a processor you have to make sure that your motherboard can support that type (intel or AMD) and you have to make sure it can support the cores like quad core

When it comes to the performance category intel has the upper hand. Go for the i7.

Source(s): Here's a friendly reminder to you parrots, intel hasn't always been on top, those of you who've been "enlightened" long enough will remember just how much of a whipping intel took at the hands of AMD's athlon and athlon x2 procs.

If you can get the i7, then it's undeniably faster. However, if budget is the concern, an i5 750 would be a good choice as well.

i7 is better because it has the clocking facility and has its l2 cache so high that the amd doesn't have

but the processor should suit the motherboard

AMD is not the greatest processor brand, intel processors have always been good.
