How can i get my cat to stop crying/meowing at night?

One of my cats who's 1yr and a half cries at our door at night.(We don't let them in because we have four cats and it would be a little much lol) Its not like he only does it when hes alone with the others, ill be sitting here and hes down the hall (in full view) and hes meowing *Loud*. He'll even sit at my bed room door and cry while im out in the living room watching T.V. Trust me he gets more then enough attention its not that,he eats fine, acting normal, personality is his usual. We've tried the spray bottle with water but he now just ends up booking down the hall as soon as he hears us get out of bed, we've also tried the put him in the crate for a bit after he starts..that also hasn't worked. Its not the meowing that's the problem its the time of night and early morning he decides to do it i love it when their vocal but its tough i have to get up for work in the am... Someone please help us..significant other is getting really fed up w. him and i refuse to even think about letting him go anywhere but here :o(

We need some intense help and not just let him in your room (It doesn't help) please and thanks

My only suggestion would be to not give him any attention at all.

Dont, yell at him, dont spray him, dont even look at him

Just let him meow and meow until hes had enough.

He will eventually stop, he has to.

Just make sure he doesnt receive any kind of attention when he meows.

Sometimes you just have to let them cry XD

It may take a while, but I think he'll eventually learn theres no reason to meow.

    Hope this helps

Meowing is a cat’s method of communication. Meowing may occur if a kitten becomes apprehensive, particularly if it is experiencing anxiety about leaving its mother. Loud or constant meowing, commonly called “talking,” often serves as a means of communication between a kitten and its owner.

If a cat is meowing excessively, consider the following potential causes and solutions:

Home alone without human companions—Playing a radio can comfort the pet by providing the sound of human voices. Answer welcoming cries by saying, “Hello,” calling the cat by name, and providing plenty of attention.

Excessive meowing may be boredom or trying to get attention. Toys can provide a safe distraction, however they can never take the place of playing with your owner. Be sure to play with your cat for at least 30 minutes each day.

Your question really brings back memories! I went through the exact same thing when I got my cat. I lost a lot of sleep and was spending my days in a zombie-like state from exhaustion until I finally got smart and bought a couple of books about cat behavior and training. I'll tell you what worked for me, and maybe it will help you, too (hopefully). Before going to bed at night, I'd put a few treats in different places around my apartment so that she could spend a little time hunting for the treats, and that managed to distract her for a little while. I also left the TV on, at a low enough volume that it wouldn't disturb me but would make kitty feel that she wasn't all alone. Usually, sometime in the middle of the night, she'd come to the bedroom door (which I kept closed so that she couldn't get in, since my fiance didn't want her sleeping with us) and she'd meow loudly and bang herself against the door so hard that I was afraid she'd actually break the door down! At those times, we had to force ourselves to just ignore her. We wouldn't respond to her cries in any way at all -- no talking to her, no yelling at her, and no giving in to her demand to be let in the room. I learned from one of my books that responding in any way at all just reinforces the behavior and it will never stop! If you ignore the behavior, the cat will eventually realize that the excessive meowing isn't going to get him what he wants and he'll give up. For me and my kitty, it took a couple of weeks for her to really learn the lesson, but she did eventually get it and I was finally able to sleep peacefully all night long. It's been two years since then and I'm still sleeping peacefully all night long because once she gave up that behavior, she hasn't reverted back to it. I know it's hard to just lie there in bed and ignore the loud crying at the door, but that's what you have to do. You just have to be patient and it shouldn't take too long to train your cat to leave you alone at night.

I had a cat that was the same way, never stopped meowing at night, so I'd put him in the bath tub and turn the shower on him for a second, cats don't like to get wet, he'd then jump out of the tub and take off somewhere to dry himself off. This takes awhile which after he's so tired he falls asleep for the night.

Your cat is in warmth, my new one it too and he or she appears like somebody is killing her. I actual have an appt for her to be spayed however the vet reported wait till she's no longer in warmth. Please spay your's, it enables steer away from issues like maximum cancers of the teets and others. that's a falsehood that it is greater suitable to allow a canines or cat have a clutter first each and all the vets I actual have used via the years had reported the comparable issue. And please do no longer declaw them, that's a barbaric issue to do on your cat. it is like a human having an amputation and it form of feels that it is nevertheless there and that they have got fantom pains in it. in the experience that your cat ever gets out and is declawed she will't climb a tree to get to protection and has no weapons if corned by way of yet another animal.

Cats that meow all the time want you the owner to pay attention to them non-stop. 2 things to do:

    -Ignore the cat

    -Get rid of the cat.

The other responses seemed pretty good...

Is there maybe something he specifically wants?.. It would be much easier if they spoke english :)..

My male cat will do that when he wants me to turn on the water facet in the bathroom.. so he can drink out of it :).. the fresh cold water ...

Maybe use Catnip?.. Tire him out... its like drugs to kitties/cats....... or grow some wheatgrass.. they Luvs that :).. well mine do..

may seem odd.. but maybe he has worms...?.. maybe needs Anal glands expressed?... EEW.. i know :).. i usually bring to vet for this... its rather gross... but its painful for them if not taken care of..

I liked Blondie's response.. no attention when exhibiting the trait you dont like / want him to display.

Have they all been spayed / neutered?

Why not put him in a crate by your bed? Maybe the other cats won't mind. It's worth a try.
